Having listened to Influencer, by the same authors, I had a fair idea what to expect. Being asked constantly how to make sure that the systems I help companies create will actually be followed by the team, I now have some great strategies to offer.
Systems are just like medicine - they only work when used properly. Properly means systems plus training plus support. But the missing component has for most managers or business owners been that difficult to manage situation where you know someone isn't doing what they've been trained to do, or simply chooses not to do what they should.
How does the average manager handle that? Badly, but only because we never actually learn the right way. So often anger and frustration direct the response to non-compliance and this never helps.
At the very least, Crucial Confrontations will help you see some alternatives to "going off the deep end" while at best, it could give you a set of effective strategies that will build in accountability, reinforce your values, and set integrity as a standard for your business (or family). I am now listening to Crucial Conversations and have bought You Can Change Anything on the strength of approach and insight of the authors.
