An amazing story! Very well thought-out and executed. The characters are all very unique and develop nicely over the course of the book. There are character that you'll love to love and characters that you'll love to hate! The scenes are all well laid out and the descriptions really help bring this alternate "Echo World" to life.
David Radtke did an amazing job as the narrator. There were so many characters to voice! And each voice fit each character perfectly (in my opinion.) He wonderfully matched the pace of the narration with the pace of the book itself. If this is truly his first time as an audiobook narrator, then kudos to you David! A great start! (Even my girlfriend says she loves his voice... making me a little jealous ;) )
There were two or three very minor discrepancies in the story, but nothing so obvious as to take away from the whole book. (Most people probably wouldn't even find them. Can you?)
If you are a fan of fantasy or sci-fi, then downloading this book would make an excellent addition to your library.
What the author did with time travel was very creative. I'll never look at time travel the same way again. It's not confusing, just very very well done. And how he was able to take a book written in the first person and give you views that weren't from the main character's perspective was very crafty.
The author laid very nice ground work in book one, but this book is where the series really shines. A great story with great characters.
Two thumbs up and five stars all around.
I'll admit I was hesitant about getting this. I usually listen to books aimed at higher age levels and not for young kids/teens.
But there is excellent storytelling here. And it's done very well without all the usual violence found in some novels.
The main character, Noah, is very likable. The narrator does a wonderful job giving him life (as well as the other characters). Mr. Pease created a fascinating futuristic world that is both complex yet easy to understand.
There are many surprises and a twist of an ending that is shocking as well as heartwarming (True, an odd combination. But it works very well.)
Well worth the credit.
I think pretty much everyone can enjoy this.
I sure did!
A unexpectedly good story! The narration was top-notch and I love how there is basically no exposition at all. The author just assumes you know how this world functions. This makes each new bit of information that much more surprising!
I don't see what all the negative fuss is about. John Glover is an excellent narrator and storyteller and I think he does a great job telling Ghost Story. I've listened to all 12 Dresden books numerous times and love James Marsters performance. John Glover may not be James Marsters, be he IS an excellent narrator. I'd hate to see fans of the series turn away from the audiobook version just because there is a new narrator.
And look at it this way, John had some BIG shoes to fill going into this, and it appears that he did his homework in preparing to read Ghost Story. It's a very good story read by a very good storyteller.
This is a great listen! The reading was excellent and the background music added a nice touch to the whole package. I loved the original paperback series and I hope that they will record the rest of the books with the same reader and background music as well!
