In 2009, Susannah Cahalan woke up in a strange hospital room strapped to a bed, under guard, and unable to move or speak. Her medical records - from a month-long hospital stay of which she had no memory - reported psychosis, violence, and dangerous instability. Yet, only weeks earlier she had been a healthy, ambitious twenty-four-year-old, six months into her first serious relationship and a sparkling career as a cub reporter

The Mote In God's Eye is their acknowledged masterpiece, an epic novel of mankind's first encounter with alien life that transcends the genre. No lesser an authority than Robert A. Heinlein called it "possibly the finest science fiction novel I have ever read".

What did you like best about The Mote in God's Eye? What did you like least?

Like best? Not much, don't get why this book is so popular. Characters are weak, gullible and naive. Authors seem to forget earlier parts of story

Very little profound, timeless sociology as id expect from good science fiction. Kept waiting to get sucked in. Just wound up being anxious for it to end.

Granted, SF authors cant predict future technology, but many things seemed plain stupid.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

annoyed by the e Scottish characters

On May 18, 1860, William H. Seward, Salmon P. Chase, Edward Bates, and Abraham Lincoln waited in their hometowns for the results from the Republican National Convention in Chicago. When Lincoln emerged as the victor, his rivals were dismayed and angry. Throughout the turbulent 1850s, each had energetically sought the presidency as the conflict over slavery was leading inexorably to secession and civil war.

Guess I'm in the minority, but was WAY less impressed than most "readers". Thought there was too much unimportant detail. I definitely learned why Lincoln was so great a man, but had expected as good a biography as Truman or Katherine Graham, but was anxious for book to end, and didn't mind quickly grazing over sections.

  • I'd Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had: My Year as a Rookie Teacher at Northeast High

Long before he starred on some of television’s most beloved and long-running series such as Taxi and Who’s the Boss? and went on to distinguish himself in a variety of film and stage roles, Tony Danza was a walking contradiction: an indifferent student who dreamed of being a teacher. Inspiring a classroom of students was an aspiration he put aside for decades until one day it seemed that the most meaningful thing he could do was give his dream a shot. What followed was a year spent teaching 10th-grade English at Northeast High - Philadelphia’s largest high school with 3,600 students....

What did you love best about I'd Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had?

I most enjoyed the emotion and the personal impact on Danza's life from a year of teaching.

I choose this book hoping it would influence my decision to enter teaching in my 50s, as Dnaza did, more or less. I will give it a try based on how he described the profound impact teaching had on his life.

Would you be willing to try another book from Tony Danza? Why or why not?

Doubtful. I only listened to this one because of the subject matter.

Have you listened to any of Tony Danza’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    no

    Any additional comments?

Danza deserves credit for the most unusual quality of this author-narrated book. Most STINK! This one is decent.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

The study of sexual physiology has been a paying career or a diverting sideline for scientists as far-ranging as Leonardo da Vinci and James Watson. The research has taken place behind the closed doors of laboratories, brothels, MRI centers, pig farms, sex-toy R&D labs, and Alfred Kinsey's attic.

Mary Roach, "The funniest science writer in the country", devoted the past two years to stepping behind those doors. In Bonk, Roach shows us how and why sexual arousal and orgasm can be so hard to achieve and what science is doing to slowly make the bedroom a more satisfying place.
