This is one of Follett's best. History told memorably through fictional characters whose
lives entertwine unexpectedly. Great writing.
The author spends just a little too much time promoting his own company, but the numbered points he makes to the reader make this book outstanding. There are few
shortcuts to hard work and the rewards that come with accomplishing it and with learning
to persevere needs to be drummed home with every young person. Great read.
Glad I bought this book.
You wont regret buying this book! Listening to it made me want to workout so that I
could learn what would happen next. You will find yourself routing for the main characters.
As good as the writing in Seabiscuit, Boys in the Boat and Unbroken.
A page turner, this true story is by turns fascinating, heartbreaking, redemptive. I cheered for Joe Rantz every hour of my listen. You will not regret buying this book. The
writing is genius. The narration is superb. The story is unforgettable. Best book I have bought ever (next to Seabiscuit and Unbroken).
I tried hard to give this book a chance because somewhere in it there probably is a message about perseverance and fitness, but he takes so long to get to it (couldnt get
past Ch. 2.....the recitation of boring studies and the name dropping go on and on.....).
And his "50 reasons" are really ten repeated 5 times each. I have tried to return it, as it is eligible for return, but although Audible invites us to switch books if we are unhappy with an eligible (for return) book, there is no process for making a return. So how serious can they be about this "benefit?"
Extremely entertaining but most importantly he got to the point in a nutshell and did not spend hours in ambiguous recitation of boring studies! I never heard of Vinny before, but now I follow him. If you want to lose weight avoid sugar and grains because what you eat
matters most. And if you want to be fit, get off the couch and exercise.....just do it! His
message is wonderfully simple and clear. The supporting material where he demonstrates
with stories from his own life was icing on the cake. I have bought this book now on audio, kindle, and two hard copies for my sons. You won't regret buying it!
Generally I dont bother writing reviews, but this is THE best written book since I bought my first audiobook (Seabiscuit) on tapes to play in my car many years ago. This girl is gifted!
And the subject of this book will inspire us all.....truly an example that "we all know adversity......how we meet it makes the difference."
Story was interesting, fun and light. Another great read for time on the elliptical. Only complaint is the almost constant blasphemy when there are less distracting ways to express emphasis, surprise, excitement....Don't call heaven unless you really need to.
The narration and the story were great. I worked out longer at the gym just so I could get the next chapter always, but the ending was less than satisfying with the main character slinking off like a whipped puppy on the 'high road' theory.
Narrator sounds like a chicken on speed. Intro is more than 40 minutes
long and repetitive, repetitive. When she finally gets to her "points" they
are the same old things from a thousand other diets. Not a good buy.
