An extraordinary debut novel of love that survives the fires of hell and transcends the boundaries of time. The narrator of The Gargoyle is a very contemporary cynic, physically beautiful and sexually adept, who dwells in the moral vacuum that is modern life. As the book opens, he is driving along a dark road when he is distracted by what seems to be a flight of arrows.

The first half of this book was good. I think I would rate it 4 stars. But it completely lost me when it took a turn for the unreal. I am sorry, but the whole first half of the book is based on common sense and sound logic. Then all of the sudden we are supposed to accept the character would do something completely the opposite? Sorry, I could not finish it.

Mickey Bolitar’s year can’t get much worse. After witnessing his father’s death and sending his mom to rehab, he’s forced to live with his estranged uncle Myron and switch high schools. A new school comes with new friends and new enemies, and lucky for Mickey, it also comes with a great new girlfriend, Ashley. For a while, it seems like Mickey’s train wreck of a life is finally improving - until Ashley vanishes without a trace. Unwilling to let another person walk out of his life, Mickey follows Ashley’s trail into a seedy underworld that reveals that this seemingly sweet, shy girl isn’t who she claimed to be.

I am a Mirion Bolitar fan, but I did not like this book very much. The ending was really bad. It was nothing more than a cliffhanger to try and get you to buy the next book; which I will not be doing.

I tried everything. Changing shoes, changing nutrition, changing my running form and changing my training plan. I even prayed to the running gods! It didn't matter. Every time I'd bolt out the door for a run something new would hurt. I was a broken down, frustrated runner. At the time, the more things I changed, the more it felt like I was wasting my time. But slowly my running started to improve. My body felt better...and healthier. I got fitter...and I got faster.

Ok, I liked the book and it had some very good recommendations on running. If you are a runner, I recommend it. However the Author narrated it and I can maybe understand why, being a short book and all. He is not a good narrator though, and if this had been a longer book I could not have dealt with him that much longer.

This mesmerizing first novel tells the epic journey of Lin, an escaped convict who flees maximum security prison in Australia to disappear into the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The keys to unlock the mysteries that bind Lin are held by two people: his mentor Khader Khan, mafia godfather and criminal-philosopher; and the beautiful, elusive Karla, whose passions are driven by dangerous secrets.

I loved the first 16 hrs of this book. Then it started to slow down. After a while, I was cheating by listening to it at higher speeds and listening to shorter books on top of it. I don't really like abridged books, but that might be a better way to go. It is a very long story

Set in the future of one possible outcome of the abortion debate, it is a little bit far fetched, but enjoyable. Hey, it's fiction, so let the far fetch basis of the book slide and the story is very well written. If you like the description they give for this book, then you will probably like the book itself.

Nobody likes The Complaints - they're the cops who investigate other cops. It's a department known within the force as "The Dark Side," and it's where Malcolm Fox works. He's a serious man with a father in a nursing home and a sister who persists in an abusive relationship, frustrating problems about which he cannot seem to do anything. problems about which he cannot seem to do anything. Then the reluctant Fox is given a new case. There's a cop named Jamie Breck, and he's dirty. The problem is, no one can prove it. As Fox takes on the job, he learns that there's more to Breck than anyone thinks....

Two things bothered me about this book. #1 it had very little action. Almost the entire book was people talking and figuring out the mystery of this murder. Talk, talk, talk. #2 when the whole mystery is finally solved, it is a bit unbelievable. So many people and moving parts involved in this plot and cover up, it just would never be conceived in real life.

I did enjoy the Scottish humor and banter. Also the characters were likable and well developed.

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

An anonymous tip puts Bosch on a case that has remained unsolved for decades, the vicious stabbing of a teenage boy whose body was found in an abandoned Old Hollywood restaurant. Cold cases are often the toughest: With no body, no murder scene, and no fingerprints, Bosch nevertheless gets lucky when DNA evidence from the murder weapon points to a known killer. But the DA insists that science alone is not enough - he needs the case to be bulletproof before he'll take it to court.

Thousands of autonomous computer programs, or daemons, make our networked world possible, running constantly in the background of our lives, trafficking e-mail, transferring money, and monitoring power grids. For the most part, daemons are benign, but the same can't always be said for the people who design them.
