It's summer in Memphis. The sweat is sticking to Rudy Baylor's shirt and creditors are nipping at his heels. Once he had aspirations of breezing through law school and punching his ticket to the good life. Now he doesn't have a joy or a prayer...except for one: an insurance dispute that leaves a family devastated and opens the door for a lawsuit, if Rudy can find a way to file it.

    Mike says: "Excellent Story..."
    "Solid book, fantastic narration."
    Overall

This is one of those titles that is a good book to begin with, but is made even better by simply excellent narration. This guy could read a phone book and make it interesting, but in this title he is given a sold plot making it a fantastic choice!

A master of subterfuge, a rogue thief with a noble air, Seregil of Rhiminee has taught his young protege, Alec of Kerry, his greatest secrets of the trade. Together they've made their way with thieving jobs large and small, winning friends and enemies, their lives in constant danger and yet charmed by an aura of magic, friendship, and trust.

    Amy says: "Pretty darned good"
"Not as good as the first in the series."
    Overall

A good book, but not as good as the first in the serires. The gay love affair didn't seem to fit the story, and the plot wasn't as fast moving or interesting as the first.

Spy, rogue, thief, and noble, Seregil of Rhiminee is many things, none of them predictable. And when he offers to take on Alec as his apprentice, things may never be the same for either of them. Soon Alec is traveling roads he never knew existed, toward a war he never suspected was brewing. Before long he and Seregil are embroiled in a sinister plot that runs deeper than either can imagine and that may cost them far more than their lives if they fail. But fortune is as unpredictable as Alec's new mentor.

David says: "A really good story. (What homosexuality?)"
"A good book, just not finished."
    Overall

This was a very enjoyable read (listen?) right up until the last few seconds, when the narrative is cut off mid-action. I've read a few series of fantasy books and expect there to be some unresolved business, but this ending is entirely unsatisfactory.

If you're willing to buy the rest of the series, you'll enjoy it - but there's no resolution to this book at all so don't plan on reading it by itself.

When confronted by raging fires or deadly accidents, volunteer fireman Taylor McAden feels compelled to take terrifying risks to save lives. But there is one leap of faith Taylor can't bring himself to make: He can't fall in love...

Claudine says: "Can't put down story!"
"More of a romance than I expected."
    Overall

The publisher description makes the story sound like it is more about a rescue than a romance.

This story is almost completely a romance - albeit a pretty good one - so will be disappointing if you're looking for anything else.
