I love Jeffery Deaver and was excited to listen to The Burning Wire. I don't know whether it was "listening" to the lists (which are always a part of the LIncoln Rhyme books) instead of "reading" them or whether the story itself just didn't work for me. In any case, I didn't make it all the way through this production and will pick up the book in hard copy so that I can finish it properly.
Last year, while on holiday, I read The Likeness and really enjoyed Tana French's style and story-telling. I wasn't sure whether this style would translate well to audiobook. It does! In Faithful Place, the narrator, Tim Gerard Reynolds, is perfect: his Irish brogue is strong but completely intelligible. The main character, Frank, is flawed but entirely decent. While the novel is a detective story (and I loved this aspect of the book), it is also a very believable study of what happens when something goes tragically wrong in a family. I was horrified and touched by French's capacity to speak so truthfully about families and how they work. I highly recommend this audiobook and hope French writes a new novel soon.
I'm a big fan of Lynda La Plante's television work so I was curious about her novels. I have now read three books in this series and have loved them all. Great stories and a fantastic narrator. So far, The Red Dahlia , Above Suspicion and The Silent Scream are the only BBC-produced audio versions of the Anna Travis series. I can hardly wait until the rest are made available on Audible. Highly recommended.
I couldn't stop listening to this fantastic audiobook. Mr. Burke's prose is beautiful and Will Patton's narration is perfect. The author treats the listener as an intelligent companion: the sights, sounds and smells of Lousiana are cracklingly alive and Dave Robicheaux is wise, dark, honest and decent. The story is multi-faceted and compelling. I'm thrilled to have found such a fabulous series and highly recommend this audiobook.
I experienced a bit of trepidation when I started reading this book: an author I hadn't read before,an unfamiliar narrator and fairly long. But, I needn't have worried: this book is an excellent listen. It's intelligently written, from beginning to end. At no time did it seem as though Ms Gutman was "dialling it in". Great characters, great plot and thought-provoking sub-text. Highly recommended.
Love Jack Reacher and loved this book. Great story, excellent narration, and lots of fun.
I have listened to every Steinhauer book that has been produced for Canadian listeners. This book was excellent: great characters, great story and great narrator. Highly recommended.
Interesting idea, often very good, but far too long. The book lost its impact near the end.
Excellent narration, great story with lots of twists and turns. Highly recommended for a summer afternoon or evening.
A fantastic conclusion to a great series, I couldn't stop listening. Larsson ably knits many strands together, creating a very satisfying conclusion to a story that looks deeply at what happens when society fails its most vulnerable. The series is set in Sweden so the reader gets the added benefit of learning more about Swedish life and history. A great listen..
