This was such a very good story; heartwarming, tragic, heroic, entertaining. Life on a circus from behind the scenes in a depression era America. Something happening in every chapter and a great ending.
How long can it take an author to set up a plot? How about half of the book. Fill it up with a plethora of characters, add some blah, blah, blah, throw in a gross sex scene. It was all I could do to start the second part of the story. I should know by now that if it's bad in the beginning it won't get any better.
this book was so much fun. Can't take some of the stories too seriously but others are heartwarming and clever. My favorite line in the whole book is "He ran out of sky."
I was so excited to see another novel by Gruen. I so enjoyed Water for Elephants. And I was so disappointed when I finally realized after about three hours of listening time that the story really stunk and wasn't going to get any better. What a really worn out story line. What a really irritating main character. What a really annoying narrator. What a really big waste of time.
What a disappointment. Waited so long for a good Clive Barker novel and still waiting. This had none of Barker's poetry or fantasy in it, just a lot of boring, repetitive nonsense. He tried to make it interesting with gore and shock but even there he fell short. It was painful! Don't waste your time or money.
