Ever since he can remember, Dom Joly has been fascinated by travel to odd places. In part this stems from a childhood spent in war-torn Lebanon, where instead of swapping marbles in the schoolyard, he had a shrapnel collection -- the schoolboy currency of Beirut. These early experiences left Dom with a profound loathing for the sanitized experiences of the modern-day travel industry and a taste for the darkest of places.

What did you love best about The Dark Tourist?

    Joly's narration

What did you like best about this story?

Joly's encounters and descriptions with the natives; I literally bust out laughing and made more bookmarks with this book than any other, in order to share with people.

Have you listened to any of Dom Joly’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The last chapter, when he goes back to Lebanon. He became very introspective-

The Psychopath Test is a fascinating journey through the minds of madness. Jon Ronson's exploration of a potential hoax being played on the world's top neurologists takes him, unexpectedly, into the heart of the madness industry. An influential psychologist who is convinced that many important CEOs and politicians are, in fact, psychopaths teaches Ronson how to spot these high-flying individuals by looking out for little telltale verbal and nonverbal clues.

Absolutely enjoyed it, even more so than "Them." You really get a feel for the people. Also, appreciated his candor.

By the best-selling author of The Dress Lodger, Sheri Holman’s new and most ambitious novel to date, Witches on the Road Tonight, uncovers the secrets and lies that echo through three generations of one Appalachian family. It is a deeply human, urgent exploration of America’s doomed love affair with fear. On the eve of World War II, eight-year-old Eddie Alley lies in bed watching his first horror movie, hand-cranked and flickering on the bare wall of a backwoods cabin. In 2011, Eddie’s daughter, Wallis, an anchorwoman for a 24-hour news channel, lies in bed with a stranger, spinning ghost stories.

What did you like best about Witches on the Road Tonight? What did you like least?

Hard to get into story; couldn't get past the cadence of narrator's voice. Very "jolty".

Was Witches on the Road Tonight worth the listening time?

Different narrator for this story would make it better.

Would you ever listen to anything by Tone Milazzo again?

    Doubt it.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Very flat. I had just finished listening to "Mother Night", which had the best narrative performance so far, so perhaps my expectations were high.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    No.

    Any additional comments?

First time I've contemplated a refund.
