Acclaimed, best-selling author Lori Wick’s The Proposal is a moving tale of Christ’s love at work in early 19th-century London. William Jennings is not married and likes it that way. But when a relative passes away, he is suddenly guardian of three young children. This unexpected development provides him a male heir without the bother of a wife, yet the children quickly become more than he can handle. Finding help from a truly remarkable woman, he learns to see the world in a completely different light.

Ms wicks has taken modern values and modern religious beliefs and written as if this was the norm back in the 1800's. Children were seen and not heard. The rod was not spared! Women were not respected by society or the law. In ms wicks version of this time period she claims the opposite. I kept listening mainly because I couldn't believe how bad it was! I am not against an honest expression of faith, but don't try to rewrite history!

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead.

An entertaining and romantic tale of the old days in Scotland. I enjoyed the story, not too sappy or predictable. A little bit steamy, but not stupidly so.

A nice light book when you need to believe in good things!

The lead character is dumb. She couldn't think her way out of a paper bag. The climax of the story made no sense. I have read some of this authors Falco mysteries and they are much better than this one.

I am working my way thru the Miss Silver series. Enjoying it for the most part. Miss Marple but with attitude and ambition! Expects to get paid for her detective work. A bit formulaic but still enjoyable. Some insipid characters, but I guess that reflects real life! And the occasional time when I want to say, Oh come on! It is not him, it is his brother, wife, son, daughter etc etc.

I call this type of book, mind candy, passes the time but you don't have to think too hard!

Stupid story, Nora Roberts in a lazy mood. Writing her formula without making the effort to make it believable. Rich guy, amazing morals, poorer girl, stridently independent, then some mysticism so that you don't have to worry too much about whether it even makes sense. You can do better Nora. I am not impressed with this effort.

A good story, but I had a bit of difficulty with the main character. Do people exist who are so lame and pathetic? Even when I was 19 I had more gumption than this 21 year old wimp! Still a good story, but had to get around wanting to slap some sense into the main character!

When English agent Gene Hawkins told his boss he'd forego his vacation to search for millionaire Dave Teller's prized missing stallion, he didn't know his retainer would include the attention of his boss's beautiful teenage daughter - or Teller's seldom sober wife. He also didn't know that a trail from London to New York to Las Vegas to California would lead eventually to murder.

I enjoyed this book. I have read or listened to many Dick Francis books. He has a tendency to be very violent and morbid. He managed to control his penchant for violence to beset his main characters in this book. His main character was very serious and there were several opportunities for him to be beaten, tortured, mentally abused etc. However, Dick did not maximize these opportunities as much as he had in some of the other works I have read. It was refreshing not to have this happen. I can only take so much gratuitous self destruction in one sitting. It was a nice surprise to have less of this in this particular publication. The characters were likeable and did not get beaten up so badly that it seemed unbelievable. I listened to this book all in one day as I was painting trim at my son's house and I was not bored and not shaking my head. Thanks for a good book Dick!
