P.D. JAMES..ALL THE DAGLISH NOVELS...GREAT WRITING, TERRIFIC PLOTS, AND WONDERFUL PROTAGNISTS....
ANYTHING WITH "JOSEPH" IN THE SCENES...
THE LAST LINES OF "MONDAY IS GONE" WHAT AN ENDING...TERIFFIC, NEVER SAW IT COMING
Have loved all the other Tana French novels...outstanding, but unfortunately the female reader( half the book ) is almost unintelligable...trying for a teenager but can not understand most of the dialogue...too much work and after a while it becomes maddening...too bad because I was really looking foward to the book...Save your money and your ears...
female narrator AWFUL,,,,doesn't anyone "pre-screen" the narrators?? especially for the American ear???
tried to return the book,,,,not user friendly that feature, so just gave up in fustration..am really disappointed in Audible...
ABSOLUTELY GREAT READ
SEE REVIEW OF "TUESDAY IS GONE"
LISTENING TO THE BOOK(S) AND THE NARRATOR MAKES THE BOOK COME ALIVE
THE LAST PART OF THE BOOK..WOW..NEVER SAW IT COMING
The author tell a believable story if you are willing to forget and ignore all the history you have read in the last 75 years. This is a big time revision of the work of many scholars and real historians over the decades. According to the author, any thing good that came out of the New Deal was suggested or "hoped for" by Hoover, and the rest was pushed on the country by a brain trust coomprised of communists and fellow travelers. I walk out of bad movies and I didn't finish part 2. I concede the author put in a lot of research to find material that could be stretched and twisted to further her agenda, and there are a lot of conservatives out there (Bush's 27%)to gobble it up.
The author has talent and could write a marketabe book if she could get with the program. "Smashed" is suppoosed to be non- fiction but after six or more years of uncontrolable drinking, problem after problem after problem, hospitalizations, blackouts, and years of failure and wasted life, she denies she is an alcoholic- thereby condeming herself to a longer life as a practicing alcoholic. She will probably have new disasters for a sequel, but I'll take a pass.
This syrupy series of goody-goody stories is a Christian sermon that smells more like fiction than non-fiction, and was a great disappointment to me. Indeed, I felt it was mis-labeled as true stories of a medical doctor and should have been promoted as sermons of a Christian evangelist.
I have downloaded over 50 nonfiction books in the past year and this, by far, is the worst. I was totally mislead by the publisher's review and feel I ought to get my money back. It would have been more interesting if the narrator had read a telephone book.
The Author doesn't have an original thought but continues to spew the neo-conservative gospel that has made his ilk rich by adoring non-thinking Americans who don't care that the whole world hates us. Don't waste your time or money
