In the tradition of Michel Faber and Sarah Waters, a literary historical novel about an orphan girl's journey from poverty to film stardom, set against the grand backdrop of World War I Berlin, the cabaret era, the run-up to World War II, and the innovations in art and industry that accompanied it all.

the most depressing story ever told, I kept waiting on her exciting life to unfold, it barely did and in the the last 20 minutes of a 14Hour story I cant believe I stayed with it that long.

When Chaz Perron's wife discovers that he is running a scam (posing as a marine biologist to doctor water samples so that an agribusiness tycoon can continue illegally dumping fertilizer into the Everglades), he pushes her overboard from a cruise liner. Unlucky for Chaz, Joey survives clutching a bale of Jamaican pot. Rescued from the Atlantic by a former police officer, Mick Stranahan, she decides not to report him but instead haunt and taunt him, with Mick's help, by playing dead.

I enjoyed very much the odd assortment of south Florida personalities as well as the big hero and herione. I could'nt wait to find out how the twisting story ended up and was literally one I couldnt put down. Since finishing this one I have listened to Nature Girl, and Native Tongue and loved them all. Very original! Steven Hoye's story telling was exceptional and very easy to tell the difference in all the voices. A Great Listen!
