Being a parent is the toughest job in the world, especially with the increasing number of negative influences and pitfalls facing our kids today, from childhood obesity and out-of-control celebrity culture to the dangers of the internet and credit card debt. Larry Winget has never been one to shy away from tough truths, and what he says here may well be difficult for some parents to swallow: we are in the midst of a crisis with our kids.

    Barbara says: "Helicopter parents beware!"
    "Loved everything about it!"
    Overall

I don't usually take the time to write reviews but I loved this book so much I decided a review was in order. I'm a clinical psychologist and I work with lots of parents and teens. The sugar coated messages conveyed by most parenting books are doing families a terrible disservice with disastrous results. Mr. Winget's style is not for the faint of heart or those who don't want to hear ideas that will make them uncomfortable. I think the author successfully walks the line between being "in your face" and maintaining intelligent humor and credibility. Usually when I see an audiobook narrated by the author I'm hesitant to buy it because often the author believes s/he is a better narrator than s/he is. Not so with this book. Mr. Wingets reading of his own book adds a great deal to the overall experience of it. This book is a rare jewel and I will be recommending it to clients who need a wake up call or just want some straight talk about being the best parent they can be.
