Newly appointed CIA director Dr. Irene Kennedy is the target of an inside plot to destroy her and prematurely end the American President's term. To make matters worse, Saddam Hussein is close to entering the nuclear arms race - something Israel has vowed to stop. With the haunting specter of World War III looming, the president calls on his secret weapon: top counter-terrorism operative Mitch Rapp. But with only two weeks to take out the nukes, Rapp is up against a ticking clock - and impossible odds.

Would you ever listen to anything by Vince Flynn again?

Yes, I actually adore Flynn, unfortunately this was not one of his better works. However, I will carefully read feedback comments before I buy again.

Would you be willing to try another one of Ken Kilban’s performances?

NO! The narrator failed miserably in depicting the persona of Mitch Rapp as well as Irene Kennedy. Instead of the competent, husky and sexy character who exudes confidence as well as a human side, this narrator made Rapp sound like a whiny whipped man who quit doing what he loves because of a woman. It was ridiculously cliche. He killed the excitement, attraction and intrigue of Rapp, and the confident strong character of Irene Kennedy.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Separation of Power?

The entire romance build up of Rapp and Anna was over the top. If I wanted a romance novel, I would have bought one. The character of Rapp was greatly diminished by his subservience to Anna.

    Any additional comments?

I have read nearly every Flynn books and have come to expect a distint Rapp character. This book did not come even close, it was boring with way too many details and the narrator was too whiny.

What did you like about this audiobook?

The story was ok but unbalanced. The characters were not portrayed well so it was difficult to follow at times.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

Actually it helped clarify the need for a legal system reboot. SES should not be a condition in obtaining good legal representation. No wonder people don't trust the "justice" system since it works on the basis of power.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

It's enlightening and depressing all rolled up into one neat little package.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

Everything! He lacked the ability to define each character in a manner befitting the author's intent and he fell way short of keeping the listener interested. His voice inflection was awful, he came off as arrogant and bored. I would not recommend listening to this narrator....ever!

Do you have any additional comments?

The first two books were pretty good with the exception of consistently portraying women in a negative light, and the narration was good. This book fell short on all accounts.

In the Company of Liars is that rare animal - a truly original thriller, strikingly fresh and unpredictable. Told chronologically in reverse, from its enigmatic end to its brilliant beginning, it's centered around a woman on trial for murder - Allison Pagone, who is caught between competing forces, each represented by someone who may not care if the pressure kills her in the end.

I've read several of David Ellis books and this one was no stunner. As usual a lawyer is being prosecuted, a sexual affair of infidelity is front and center, and the storyline was all over the place... difficult to follow. The narrators are wonderful but the plot did not give them much to work with. No more David Ellis for me.

I've never listened to this author before....my mistake. If you enjoy intriguing twists, descriptive action that actually places you inside the narrative and no "James Bond gets the girl" nonsense, then you'll love this book. And as always, the narrator is fantastic at bringing each character to life.

Attorney Paul Riley has built a lucrative career on his famous prosecution of Terry Burgos, a serial killer who emulated the lyrics of a violent song to gruesomely murder six girls, including the daughter of billionaires Harland and Natalia Bentley. Now, fifteen years later, the police are confronted with a new series of murders - and the grisly second verse to the song. Riley is the first to realize that the two cases are connected and that the line between copycat and cover-up has been blurred.

This is the sixth David Ellis book I have listened to and as expected, the lawyer becomes a suspect and there is always a dysfunctional romance that distracts from a potentially great thriller/suspense novel. Dick Hill continues to be an excellent narrator which is the one asset that helped me get through this book. Time to move on to a new author.

A number of bodies are discovered on the United States' border with Mexico, each carved with a bizarre symbol: a hummingbird.
