    Story

In the near future, at a moment no one will notice, all the dazzling technology that runs our world will unite and turn against us. Taking on the persona of a shy human boy, a childlike but massively powerful artificial intelligence known as Archos comes online and assumes control over the global network of machines that regulate everything from transportation to utilities, defense and communication. In the months leading up to this, sporadic glitches are noticed by a handful of unconnected humans - a single mother, a lonely Japanese bachelor, and an isolated U.S. soldier....

    "It was only OK"
    Overall

Great concept but poorly executed. I would have liked more of a climax to the story. I felt the final scene was a bit of a let-down.

  • World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War

    • ABRIDGED (6 hrs and 3 mins)
    • By Max Brooks
    • Narrated By Max Brooks, Alan Alda, John Turturro, and others
    Overall
    (5543)
    Performance
    (3794)
    Story
    (3804)

The Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. Max Brooks, driven by the urgency of preserving the acid-etched first-hand experiences of the survivors from those apocalyptic years, traveled across the United States of America and throughout the world, from decimated cities that once teemed with upwards of 30 million souls, to the most remote and inhospitable areas of the planet.

Steve says: "Good but Too Short!"
    "Not quite enough!!"
    Overall

We really need the unabridged version... if one exists. Great narrators and a good idea for a book.

  • Go the F--k to Sleep

    • UNABRIDGED (6 mins)
    • By Adam Mansbach, Ricardo Cortes (cover illustration)
    • Narrated By Samuel L. Jackson
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) rocks this mock bedtime story, capturing a hilarious range of emotions as the voice of a father struggling to get his child to sleep. Go the F**k to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don’t always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland.

    "Just what I was thinking!!"
    Overall

So many nights I wanted to scream and cry because of the chore that bedtime became! This author sums it up nice and sweet and Samuel Jackson perfectly speaks the words! I love you baby, but go the f*** to sleep!

  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: The Millennium Trilogy, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 19 mins)

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

Pamela Murphy says: "COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN"
    "Great narrator! Complex story."
    Overall

I listened to all three books, and all three books I had to start over a minimum of three times. Even with a clear understanding of the plot and characters, the enjoyment eluded me! I love foreign films, murder, and mystery... but this trilogy almost killed me! I wish I could claim that I am not very educated and that perhaps this was too complex for my simple mind... I just never enjoyed these books.

  • Sole Survivor

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 33 mins)

    Story

Sole Survivor unfolds at a heart-stopping pace, as a desperate chase and a shattering emotional odyssey lead Joe to a truth that will force him to reassess everything he thought he knew about life and death, a truth that, given the chance, will rock the world and redefine the destiny of humanity.

    Ewan says: "Outstanding"
    "Worth the wait!"
    Overall

It was really hard to get past Mr. Koontz's overuse of adjectives, jumps in time/location, and overall droning and rehashing... but it was worth the wait to get to the last 2 hours of the book. The message was poignant and sweet and "worth the wait."

  • Lean Mean Thirteen

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 43 mins)

From coast to coast and around the world, Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels continue to make best-selling history each summer. In the 13th book in the series, the stakes are raised even higher as Stephanie Plum finds herself in her most dangerous, hilarious, hottest, chase yet.

Kelly says: "Same flavor, different package"
    "Not that hot!"
    Overall

After waiting a year for another dose of Stephanie Plum, I unplugged my MP3 Player and felt disappointed and vexed. Thirteen was only OK and lacked the usual spice and LOL (laugh-out-loud) qualities that Janet’s other books seem to have. Ranger didn't seem nearly as unattainable nor dangerous (two of his best qualities) and the *heat* that usually seems to sizzle just under the surface, didn't even seem to get the temp to lukewarm this time around. Stephanie's life seems to be getting a little more sedate, it almost seems she should just let got of the Ranger wanderlust, marry Joe, and have babies. JMHO.
