Rand's Protagonist, Equality 7-2521, describes a surreal world of faceless, nameless drones who "exist through, by and for our brothers who are the State. Amen." Alone, this daring young man defies the will of the ruling councils and discovers the forbidden freedoms that prevailed during the Unmentionable Times. In other words, he finds and celebrates the power of the self. In doing so, he becomes the prototypical Rand hero, a bold risk-taker who shuns conformity and unabashedly embraces egoism.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I loved Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead. This one was a real yawner for me, however. I'm sure in its time it was relevant and new. It is a bit dated these days.

Would you ever listen to anything by Ayn Rand again?

    Yes

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Disliked the rise in the tune of his sentences as they progressed.

Do you think Anthem needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    No

In a scrap heap within an abandoned factory, the greatest invention in history lies dormant and unused. By what fatal error of judgment has its value gone unrecognized, its brilliant inventor punished rather than rewarded for his efforts?

Where does Atlas Shrugged rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of my favorite books period. While a bit laborious in parts due to Ayn's beating a dead horse, turning him over and beating him again, the message is one that should resonate with anyone who produces more than rhetoric. This book should be reduced in size and be required reading in public schools.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

The fact that the producers have enabled the takers by dismissing them.

What about Christopher Hurt’s performance did you like?

He did a great job except for the female voices. They were adequate but a bit irritating.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Loved the part where Reardon slammed the goverment agent who was trying to buy his steel formula.

    Any additional comments?

    A must read...

One of the 20th century's most challenging novels of ideas, The Fountainhead champions the cause of individualism through the story of a gifted young architect who defies the tyranny of conventional public opinion. The struggle for personal integrity in a world that values conformity above creativity is powerfully illustrated through three characters: Howard Roarke, a genius; Gail Wynand, a newspaper mogul and self-made millionaire; and Dominique Francon, a devastating beauty.

Where does The Fountainhead rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best I've read. I could pick out people I know and match them with these charactors perfectly!

What did you like best about this story?

The message was perfectly stated within a fictional backdrop.

What does Christopher Hurt bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Reading is always better if you have the time.

    Any additional comments?

I wished I'd have read this book years ago.
