I would change Maggie however this was published in 97' and Lisa Gardner is one of my favorite authors. Maggie made no sense to me. She is a mousy virgin yet a marriage counselor who had never been in a serious relationship. Really? A very naive and whiny character, Maggie just annoyed me. The characters were not very complex and I'm glad this book was written under Alicia Scott, Maggie is nothing like DD Warren and the other complex characters in her other series.
I would recommend this one to a teenager who has limited experiences, they would probably find Maggie more believable.
Never and I think Kate Rudd's narration added to the annoying qualities of Maggie and she reads men like they are cave men. errr.
As much as I complained throughout this review, I still managed to listen to the whole book in 24 hours so it couldn't have been that bad. As I mentioned I was entertained, the book was not very complex which gave me the ability to multi-task while listening. If it was a DD Warren book or any other Lisa Gardner book, I would have been more captivated and would have stopped the multi-tasking to listen closely.
Can't wait for Fear Nothing!
Great story but each book is about 8 hours and the series adds up in credits. I'm enjoying the story though so I guess u got me hooked. The other negative is its moving VERY slow. Besides that I love characters, especially Jacko.
I'm loving the characters. The plot is really building up. I find myself liking and at the same time pitying these monsters.
So innocent yet dangerous. I'm looking forward to the next book.
This book was wonderful, I couldn't put it down. A cross between sci-fi and psychological crime thriller, this book kept me interested from beginning to end. Of course, Scott brick was icing on the cake. I wish he narrated the rest of the series but hopefully the next narrator is just as good.
This book went beyond my expectations. It was fast paced and thought provoking all the while disturbing. I loved the balance between darkness and light. If you like psychological thrillers about serial killers, this book is for you.
This is the first I have read from this author and I have mixed feelings. Part one and two could have been the first book as the other half seemed totally different. Some of the book was psychological thriller which was great and the author has a beautiful way with his words. On the other hand, other parts felt like a scene from good fellas and I didn't enjoy it. It was like two genres of books were made into one book. I don't know if I'll read the next. Fifteen hours is a big time investment and the ending left me feeling unsatisfied.
I gave read many serial killer stories and it starts getting repetitive but this book was refreshing. This one follows a young criminal lawyer instead of a police detective. It is by far one of the best mystery novels I've read. Also I have never listened to Jim McCance before but he was great, at times he sounded like Buffalo Bill from "Silence of the Lambs" and other times he sounded like my favorite narrator, Scott Brick. If you like Scott Brick you should like Jim McCance.
I enjoyed listening to the evolution of Teddy who was somewhat naive and desperate for a mentor.
The underwater scene, I'll leave it at that. ;)
Once I got into it I couldn't put it down.
I stumbled on this series by accident. One of the best I've read in awhile.
Big Time!!!! It kept me guessing the whole time.
She was fantastic!
Some secrets are best left unsaid.
Anyone that likes this narrator will like it. I didn't like the narrator. I'm two hours into the story and I've stopped it twice to read other books.
He should try to keep the same narrator throughout the series. For a man to read as a woman he has to be careful to not make the girl sound too girly. Jessica is a tough woman and I don't like how he reads her. Also, two hours in the Jessica still hasn't been brought into the crime investigation in New Orleans, its just dragging! The other issue which is no fault of this book is book 3 is not available on audible therefore I now have a gap in the storyline.
I will and I will try to finish this book. I would really like book 3 on audible.
cut the narrator
One of my new favorites.
Big time and it kept me guessing. The killer is just so creepy.
He was great across the board
I really liked this book. Lately the crime novels I've been reading are more romance than thriller. This one is gritty and the woman doesn't take any s**t.
It was suspenseful and I enjoyed all the forensic talk. The ending was deeply disturbing and I loved listening to every second of it.
He was fantastic! I liked his voice for Jessica. She sounds as you would expect. Someone very intelligent and just wants to cut through the nonsense.
I pretty much did.
