It was a good day when I realized I could combine my two hobbies- reading AND knitting. Audible has seen me through many projects!

With the same sensitivity and artfulness that are the trademarks of her award-winning novels, Shields here explores the life of a writer whose own novels have delighted readers for the past two hundred years. In Jane Austen, Shields follows this superb novelist from her early family life in Steventon to her later years in Bath, her broken engagement, and her intense relationship with her sister Cassandra. She reveals both the very private woman and the accomplished author.

Few novels have had as profound an impact on American culture as On the Road. Pulsating with the rhythms of 1950s underground America, jazz, sex, illicit drugs, and the mystery and promise of the open road, Kerouac's classic novel of freedom and longing defined what it meant to be "beat" and has inspired generations of writers, musicians, artists, poets, and seekers who cite their discovery of the book as the event that "set them free".

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Listening to Will Patton read this book is truely an experience worth having.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Relief- Dean Moriarity made me tired just thinking about his personality.

    Any additional comments?

I'm not sure I would have enjoyed this book if I was reading it myself, but it really came alive with Patton's great work!

  • Summer

Wharton's most erotic and lyrical novel, Summer explores a daring theme for 1917, a woman's awakening to her sexuality. Eighteen-year-old Charity Royall lives in the small town of North Dormer, ignorant of desire until the arrival of architect Lucius Harney. Like the succulent summer landscape in the Berkshires around them, Charity's romance is lush and picturesque, but its consequences are harsh and real.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I'm trying to get through all of Wharton's novels- I'd recommend this to a Wharton fan but not necessarily someone looking for that all encompassing "good read". It was scandalous at the time but it sort of has a predictable ending and I wasn't particularly satisfied with the heroine.

If you’ve listened to books by Edith Wharton before, how does this one compare?

There wasn't anything particularly wrong with the reader- I just didn't like her style. The reading felt very clipped and almost rushed.

Would you be willing to try another one of Grace Conlin’s performances?

    Probably not.

I bought this on a whim knowing nothing about the author or the book, just that the premise sounded interesting. About an hour in I came back and put all of Ms. Jackson's books on my wishlist- she's the kind of writer/reader who tells a great story and someone I wanted to curl up and spend my entire day with.

If you could sum up Rebecca in three words, what would they be?

    Suspenseful, indulgent, enjoyable

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that I had no idea what to expect and was completely unable to predict what was going to happen next. The author builds the suspense of the story beautifully and I couldn't wait to listen to the next chapter!

    Which scene was your favorite?

The fancy dress ball- where our poor heroine dons an unfortunate costume.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    absolutely!

    Any additional comments?

Great book! I'd added several Du Maurier books to my wishlist!

Thirteen-year-old Kyra has grown up in an isolated polygamous community without questioning her father's three wives and her 20 brothers and sisters. Or at least without questioning them much - if you don't count her secret visits to the Mobile Library on Wheels to read forbidden books, or her meetings with the boy she hopes to choose for herself instead of having a man chosen for her.

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Miles Halter is fascinated by famous last words - and tired of his safe life at home. He leaves for boarding school to seek what the dying poet Francois Rabelais called the "Great Perhaps." Much awaits Miles at Culver Creek, including Alaska Young. Clever, funny, screwed-up, and dead sexy, Alaska will pull Miles into her labyrinth and catapult him into the Great Perhaps.

Looking for Alaska brilliantly chronicles the indelible impact one life can have on another.

I want to be careful that I don't spoil anything- but I enjoyed this book immensely. The reader is terrific and I revelled in every minute I listened to this book. It absolutely covers the span of what it's like to be a teenager and the emotions and conflicts that are apart of being that. I am newly converted John Green fan, but man, everything I get my hands on, I love.
