Would you listen to The Game again? Why?

Laurie King is a superb writer and this latest addition is one of her best. If you love a good Sherlock Holmes mystery you will be enchanted with this 1920 intrigue set in British India. Mary Russell, Holmes' associate, partner and wife, is a good counterpart for the detective post Watson. I really enjoyed this audible book.

  • The Mists of Avalon

A posthumous recipient of the World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement, Marion Zimmer Bradley reinvented - and rejuvenated - the King Arthur mythos with her extraordinary Mists of Avalon series. In this epic work, Bradley follows the arc of the timeless tale from the perspective of its previously marginalized female characters: Celtic priestess Morgaine, Gwenhwyfar, and High Priestess Viviane.

The book was quite good except for the over-arching religious theme, that in my opinion, became monotonous. I understand that religion was a major theme but felt that the two main female characters, Gwendolyn and Morgaine, were too over zealous to be believable.

Despite the conflict between the goddess of Avalon and Catholicism, the book was worth listening to. Many themes about love, friendships, loyalty and religion, of course, were examined and developed. You become attached to the characters as you follow them through youth to the end of life. The author has a good writing style and I enjoyed her take on this familiar Camelot story.

The books are a good value and the literary content is quality. So, if you can tolerate the many references to following the goddess and God/Christ/Mary, the conflict that arose because of opposing views, as well as character guilt that comes when not doing so with the true devotion of a follower of either camp, then I can recommend this book.

Quentin Coldwater is brilliant but miserable. A senior in high school, he's still secretly preoccupied with a series of fantasy novels he read as a child, set in a magical land called Fillory. Imagine his surprise when he finds himself unexpectedly admitted to a very secret, very exclusive college of magic in upstate New York, where he receives a thorough and rigorous education in the craft of modern sorcery.

I really wanted to like this book. The plot was fascinating but I found myself impatient with the characters. The book follows the characters through high school and beyond. Despite the passage of time the characters never developed but seemed stuck in adolescence. It was sheer determination that kept me listening until the end.

Maybe what I was looking for is in the second book; but I just don't want to make another investment waiting for a reasonable glimpse of humanity in the protagonist that I longed to see occur in book one.

LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well, not since a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner. Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s. They are each other’s last chance.

If you could sum up Suspect in three words, what would they be?

    Enjoyable storyline.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Maggie

    Any additional comments?

I have read many Robert Crais books and always enjoy them. This book was a diversion from his regular storyline- a portion of the story is narrated from the dog's perspective. If you are a Robert Crais fan and you love dogs, this book is for you.

Bayport High's Varsity cheer squad is made up of the hottest of the hot. But this A-list is dangerous in more ways than one. The Squad is actually a cover for the most highly trained group of underage government operatives the United States has ever assembled. They have the perfect cover, because, beyond herkeys and highlights, no one expects anything from a cheerleader.

I picked up this audio on the 4.95 special list. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It is a fun book with witty and sarcastic quips that kept me entertained. If an imagine of Stephanie Plum in high school appeals, you will enjoy this audio.
