Herriot continues the rich and rewarding day-to-day life of a small-town veterinarian, and we journey with him across the dales, meeting a whole new cast of unforgettable characters - humans, dogs, horses, lambs, parakeets - all of them drawn with the same infinite fascination, affection and insight that made James Herriot one of the most beloved authors of our time. And all the stories are warmly, evocatively told by the world-renowned "voice" of Dr. Herriot: Christopher Timothy.

Amazing stories of a pre-WWII animal doctor dealing with the country people deep in the English countryside. If you love animals, if you love unique interesting people and have a sense of humor you will love this book - narration is perfection.

Befriending 19-year-old Tommy, Jody tries to understand her new undead life, but trouble finds her when the cops start suspecting Tommy of being a local bloodsucking serial killer.

    "Great book...lousy title"

I loved this book - laugh out loud funny, with quirky characters and enough twist and turns to keep you listening. The only thing I didn't like about the book is the title - what an embarrassing thing for others to see you listening to on your iphone....

When 15-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing, not even a smear of blood, to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

Teddy says: "2 Stars because it actually gets worse...."
    "Not a teenage crossover..."
    Overall

This book is entertaining - I often am able to pull clever, well written young adult fiction into my adult fiction list and enjoy the hell out of them. This book was much more difficult to do so - relying heavily on sarcastic, teenage humor and relationships.
If you are a teenager - you will like this book. If you are an adult looking to a bit of fun...I'd look for another book that won't have you rolling your eyes.

There are places in the world where darkness rules, where it's unwise to walk. Sunshine knew that. But there hadn't been any trouble out at the lake for years, and she needed a place to be alone for a while. Unfortunately, she wasn't alone. She never heard them coming. Of course you don't, when they're vampires.

Amazon Customer says: "An absolutely riveting, addictive tale"
    "From Practical to Fantasy..."
    Overall

Rae is a no-nonsense down to earth practical person who is the kind of dependable, practical girl you hope to have as a friend. She looks for nothing more exciting than discovering a new recipe or a good book.
But her bloodline and destiny collide. Rae never loses character - even when vampires are surrounding her, blood is dripping both on her and from her...she observes the practical details, retains the rye sense of humor, and gives us a clear picture of what would happen to the mind of a "normal" person forced into the un-natural world of deep magic and vampire duals. Wonderful book!

Richard Mayhew is an unassuming young businessman living in London, with a dull job and a pretty but shrewish fiancée. Then one night he stumbles upon a girl lying on the sidewalk, bleeding. He stops to help her, and his life is changed forever. Soon he finds himself living in a London most people would never have dreamed of: a city of monsters and saints, murderers and angels. It is a world that exists entirely in a subterranean labyrinth of sewer canals and abandoned subway stations.

    Thomas says: "Neverwhere is Great"
    "Author Excellent Reader!"
    Overall

I loved this story and thought Neil Gaiman's reading added a great deal to my enjoyment of the story. I disagree hardily with those who found otherwise.

I am very particular about my readers and thought he did an amazing job. If you like quirky, imaginative, funny and heartwarming tales - this one is for you!!

    "No Depth - no Davina"
    Overall

I've read all of Diana Gabaldon's previous books in this series and would rate them all 5 star both for the intense, detailed writing by Diana and the incredible reading of Davina Porter - but that stopped with this book. The characters have no depth - the addition of music is distracting and adds nothing. The books skips from here to there leaving vast amounts of information absent. I miss my Claire, my Jamie, my Ian...who are these empty flat strangers? A classic case of a series that has gone on too long!!! With great disappointment - I would have traveled the distance with them where ever they had landed but this is the last disappointing voyage for me on this series.

It is not long before the survivors, outlaws, renegades, and carrion eaters start to gather, picking over the bones of the dead and fighting for the spoils of the soon-to-be dead. Now in the Seven Kingdoms, as the human crows assemble over a banquet of ashes, daring new plots and dangerous new alliances are formed, while surprising faces, some familiar, others only just appearing, are seen emerging from an ominous twilight of past struggles and chaos to take up the challenges ahead.

Jorge says: "New is not always better..."
    "Genius....again"
    Overall

Yes the narrator has changed, and yes, I miss Roy Dotrice. We went through so much together. If truth be told, it took me a while to get used to Mr. Dotrice's voice - now much missed. But John Lee is very good - it's just hard to not hear the same inflections in the voices of my old friends.
The writing is suburb, the storyline complicated and wonderfully rich. Don't miss this book - a wonderful addition to an incredible series!

History and fiction merge seamlessly in Tracy Chevalier's luminous novel about artistic vision and sensual awakening. Through the eyes of 16-year-old Griet, the world of 1660s Holland comes dazzlingly alive in this richly imagined portrait of the young woman who inspired one of Vermeer's most celebrated paintings.
