I'm not usually a huge John Grisham fan, but I was looking for somthing different to keep my attention for a long trip. The narrator is fabulous and very easy to listen to. The characters are phenomonal and very likable. Just when you think you've heard it all, Patrick Lanigan comes up with more twists. The last few hours were slightly drawn out, but not painfully so. I had guessed the ending, but hoped I wasn't right! Worth the listen and drawing your own conclusion about the ending!
I was very disappointed in this book. It starts out very powerful, well read, characters well developed. But somewhere in the middle, the plot is lost to a mom dealing with everyday mom struggles. ( *yawn* boring ) I kept anticipating this BIG ending with a huge surprise- It was a huge letdown. No surprises, no twists, no turns. Do not read this if you are expecting a mystery.
I absolutely loved Chet! The idea of the story being told by him was very cute. Some of the sidelong detail was annoying, but I suppose, in true form of dog thoughts. Bernie was a little numb, but fairly likable. It was not very mysterious, hope the author keeps a few details secret next time.
Looking forward to #2, but I'll go for print this time. I thought the narrator was a little dry.
All in all, very enjoyable and worth the time.
Very enjoyable read. McCabe is an extremely likable lead character. The plot is not terribly mysterious, but it is well written. I think the storyline draws together very well at the end. I am from Maine and was intrigued at the thought of the book being based in Portland. I think the author did a great job with accuracies, but hope nothing like this actually happens here!
The narrator does a great job with McCabe and other male characters. Very smooth and cop-like. Thankfully there was not a lot of female dialogue, as they tended to sound like gay men.
I would reccommend and hope to see a McCabe series soon.
This is my second Stone Barrington novel, the first one I read in an afternoon. I find the characters to be very enjoyable and likable. The plot isn't what I would call "thick" but I think it does enough to keep you interested. Some good twists and turns, it makes you suspect everyone.
I will never purchase another novel read by this horrible narrator. My first impression of Stone was mid to late 40s, he sounds more like 65 when read by this guy. Which makes the sex scenes even more cringe-worthy! Dino sounded like Oscar the Grouch, and the rest of the cast had very odd British accents ?!
Overall, worth a read, not a listen.
This was a pretty easy listen. I enjoy the women characters and was glad to catch this installment of them. There were actually a few different stories going on that made it interesting. I thought all the court room chapters(testimonies and arguements) were very drawn out. This one didn't seem to have the usual JP suspense...we'll hope for that in #7
First, I would rather listen to nails on a chalkboard than ever hear anything by this narrator again! Worst I have ever heard. If you can make it through the first 3 hours, the story develops into something. It's not fabulous, don't waste your time listening, go to the library and flip through it, you'll be done in about 2 hours. I'm glad I didn't read the first one, and now I definately won't bother.
First J. Kellerman novel. enjoyed the characters and the narration. Best male voice I've heard in awhile. I found a lot of similarities to James Patterson books. good flow, never boring. I'll definately get another.
Characters were very likable, narration was okay, story was fast paced and very interesting. Good ending, nothing surprising or twisting, but satisfying. I always enjoy Iris Johansen, and this was no exception! Worth a listen!
I have never read Michael Connelly prior to this novel. I'm usually not interested in court dramas, too confusing. I was pleasantly surprised to find it flowed nicely. The narrator was very lackluster. Keeping up between characters was more diffictult than understanding legal jargon. The main character was likeable. The bulk of the story was entertaining, the twists at the end were good. Nothing I would consider jaw-dropping, but overall it was a nice way to end the story.
I think the next Connelly I try will be abridged. I think I could have given this four stars if it had moved at a faster pace.
