On a quiet fall evening in the small, peaceful town of Mill Valley, California, Dr. Miles Bennell discovers an insidious, horrifying plot. Silently, subtly, almost imperceptibly, alien life-forms are taking over the bodies and minds of his neighbors, his friends, his family, the woman he loves, and the world as he knows it.

Do not start this audiobook unless you have 6hrs free to sit and listen! You'll be snagged in the first 5 minutes and it won't let you go. Finney's writing style is fluid and captivating. The narrator must also be commended...phenomenal job! My favorite audiobook thus far.

In this brilliant debut novel, Noah's family (or Noe, as he's called here), his wife, sons, and daughters-in-law, tell what it's like to live with a man touched by God, while struggling against events that cannot be controlled or explained. When Noe orders his sons to build an ark, he can't tell them where the wood will come from. When he sends his daughters-in-law out to gather animals, he can offer no directions, money, or protection.

    Overall

I loved the concept of this book and the wonderful imagination of the author who made the story of Noah come alive in a down-to-earth manner. The narrating cast also deserves much credit. I did find however that the author was a bit lazy regarding his details and his choice of vocabulary. I think the book would have been more intriguing had Maine made the characters' world, language and thought life more in-line with what we know of ancient civilization via archaeology and ancient texts. I often felt as though the characters were modern settler-types going through an extraordinary event instead of pre-historic man. Some of Maine's literary techniques also begin to repeat themselves so that you can finish the end of a sentence/thought by yourself even before it is read. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the characters and plot.

Based on a decade of research and on interviews with many of Mao's close circle in China who have never talked before, and with virtually everyone outside China who had significant dealings with him, this is the most authoritative biography of Mao ever written.

"Well written, well read & VERY interesting"
    Overall

Enjoyable even for someone like me who knew NOTHING about Mao or China prior to diving into this book. The book is lengthy and I have to admit that I did zone out in a couple places but this in no way detracted from my enjoyment or understanding of the story. There's a lot to take in here, but rather than being daunted by the length and detail of the book, I would highly recommend giving it a listen and taking in what you can.
