They first appear as a series of dots on astronomical plates, heading from Saturn directly toward Earth. Since the ringed planet carries no life, scientists deduce the mysterious ship to be a visitor from another star. The world's frantic efforts to signal the aliens go unanswered. The first contact is hostile: the invaders blast a Soviet space station, seize the survivors, and then destroy every dam and installation on Earth with a hail of asteriods.

Flatlander says: "Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle at Their Best"
    "Dated story and simplistic characters"
    Overall

I love science fiction but not this book. Dated story, laughable plot (see baby elephants with hang gliders and foam shoes invading Kansas!) and thinly drawn characters. Science fiction writers lounge with captured alien sipping frozen drinks in mud bath while advising the President how to save the world. One of the main characters, Jenny, has been promoted from Airman to Colonel and close Presidential advisor by standing around and looking pretty. I didnt care for any of the characters in this book and was actually rooting for the aliens to fling another big one at earth. Maybe a better read than audio but narration makes the flaws in this book leap out at you. Do not recommend.

The cozy little town of Pine Deep buried the horrors of its past a long time ago. Thirty years have gone by since the darkness descended and the Black Harvest began, a time when a serial killer sheared a bloody swath through the quiet Pennsylvania village. The evil that once coursed through Pine Deep has been replaced by cheerful tourists getting ready to enjoy the country’s largest Halloween celebration in what is now called “The Spookiest Town in America.”

What did you love best about Ghost Road Blues?

But got hooked by the middle of the narrative. Had to finish the story so wound up downloading second and third book in the trilogy.

What other book might you compare Ghost Road Blues to and why?

Salems Lot. Very believeable story about evil and vampires in modern times

    Which scene was your favorite?

Crow and Rugars confrontation in the yard at the Guthrie farm and then Rugars disappearance after being shot

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Creepy book makes you believe that evil is close at hand
