Totally gripped by this story, and I knew the whole story from before. After 40 hours of listening, I just wanted to listen for another 40 hours. I want to know what happens next!
I go through at least 4 book a month, and this is one of the best ever.
This was comparable to "In the Name of the Wind" By Patrick Rothfuss, in both structure and quality. It was worth the credit and I am getting sequel right away.
This was the best Book of the Trilogy. It was hard to stop listening, and it was gut wrenching.
One of my top 5 historical novels to be sure! Yes it is violent, and graphic. It is also a profound story, well told.
There is so much depth in this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it was unpredictable, unlike most other historical novels I have been reading lately that are most young adult in style even-though they are meant for adults.
I find it a struggle to find books in the historical novels niche that are NOT just all actions or all soap opera. A lot of the popular series out there now seem like they were written for teenagers.
This is closer to the balance I was hoping for. It will appeal to mature adults, the story is good and I learn to care about the characters, but it is essentially a "who dunit?" So if you were looking for Roman wars and action, you will not find it here. Sometimes you almost forget you are in the Roman Empire at all.
I wish thee was a little more action, but it was worth the money I spent for sure. I will get the next book in the series later, once I get a break from the crime mystery genre.
The narrator is first rate, excellent!
Perhaps this is because I am not a beginner at running a business online, but this all seemed very basic to me.
This was very helpful. Holiday is good, no doubt about it...
However much the underbelly of New Media may shock you in this book, I cannot shake the feeling that Holiday sensationalized the book himself. His "unveiling" of how Youtube uses Thumbnails to increase Click-through-rate is not as crazy as he suggests. Although there is manipulation going on, I don't think it is bleak as he professes.
I DO recommend the book for anyone who makes their living from new media.
Most books about story-telling, spend a lot of time talking about how important story-telling is, but spend so little on HOW to actually create great stories, especially in the context of the digital age. Jonah goes into this beyond what most authors do. Thank goodness!
I love the book, I am reading for the second time this month!
My only concern is that I wish he went into the mechanics of story-telling even more, but there is still a lot to work with.
The author should be commended for the significant contribution he has made to not just effective marketing, but appealing to our higher human nature and revealing how this can be so much more powerful that appealing to people baser needs/desires.
This is what makes the book stand out so much!
Just finished all 5 Books of the Song of Ice & Fire. I like this better than LOTR! Yes, I said it....better than Tolkien! Huge books that never gets boring, always gripping, and you learn something new each chapter.
