Hardly anyone ever leaves Des Moines, Iowa. But Bill Bryson did, and after 10 years in England he decided to go home, to a foreign country. In an ageing Chevrolet Chevette, he drove nearly 14,000 miles through 38 states to compile this hilarious and perceptive state-of-the-nation report on small-town America.

Lou says: "Bill's sophmoric, condescending journey"
"I had no idea who he was."

My girlfriend suggested I listen to this and I had my doubts, but I figured I had little to lose as I am always looking for a good book to listen to. I listened to this while doing a 1000km drive through my home province and a lot of what was being said really sank in and made me laugh. It's a dated book but very good.

Suddenly, condemned arch-swindler Moist von Lipwig found himself with a noose around his neck and dropping through a trapdoor into...a government job? By all rights, Moist should be meeting his maker rather than being offered a position as postmaster by Lord Vetinari, supreme ruler of Ankh-Morpork.

ChrisR says: "Great as an audiobook"
    "Nice Moist Von Lipwig book."

A very good book. Pratchetts discworld is going into the industrial revolution and I really like this one. This is a pretty good book and I like his style. I haven't decided if I like Stephen Briggs better than Nigel Planer or not though.

Three hundred years after the events of the Mistborn trilogy, Scadrial is now on the verge of modernity, with railroads to supplement the canals, electric lighting in the streets and the homes of the wealthy, and the first steel-framed skyscrapers racing for the clouds.Kelsier, Vin, Elend, Sazed, Spook, and the rest are now part of history—or religion. Yet the old magics of Allomancy and Feruchemy continue to play a role in this reborn world....

Timothy says: "Pleased, yet wanting more..."
"It's not as long as mistborn but that is ok."

I've seen a lot of people complain that this was not as long as one of Sandersons mistborn books, but the thing to keep in mind there is those books were damned long. This book has a more feel and length of a Terry Pratchett book and in my opinion that is a good thing. I am rather eagerly awaiting his next one of these books. He has a real world to work with here.
