An incredible but true account of achieving one of the most awe-inspiring midlife physical transformations ever

In October 2006, the night before he was to turn forty, Rich experienced a chilling glimpse of his future. Nearly fifty pounds overweight and unable to climb the stairs without stopping, he saw where his sedentary lifestyle was taking him. Most of us look the other way when granted such a moment of clarity, but not Rich.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Highly recommend if you enjoy inspiring autobiographies. The book is read by the author and his delivery style is occasionally a little dry, but other times his wry humor comes through in a really funny way. I've enjoyed it and it certainly makes you feel like its never too late to get fit!

When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early 40s, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it at first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the town's council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.

    Any additional comments?

Rowling is a master of words, and the plot intricacies here are interesting, but the book is just depressing. Nothing redeeming or inspiring or enjoyable about it. I quit 1/3 way through. I never read reviews before a book bc I don't want to be tipped off about what happens. So I was not expecting to dislike it. There was nothing to make me care about what happens to these characters. Zilch.
