It is 1902, and a bright, inexperienced young man named Isaac Bell, only two years out of his apprenticeship at the Van Dorn Detective Agency, has an urgent message for his boss. Hired to hunt for radical unionist saboteurs in the coal mines, he is witness to a terrible accident that makes him think that something else is going on, that provocateurs are at work and bigger stakes are in play. Little does he know just how big they are. Given exactly one week to prove his case, Bell quickly finds himself pitted against two of the most ruthless opponents he has ever known.

Would you listen to The Striker again? Why?

No. As with all Isaac Bell adventures this is an easy read that does not warrant repeated reading/listening IMO.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Even though I knew Isaac Bell will survive in the end the twists of the plot kept it interesting.

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?

    Isaac Bell

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    not really ...

Sangamon Taylor's a New Age Sam Spade who sports a wet suit instead of a trench coat and prefers Jolt to Scotch. He knows about chemical sludge the way he knows about evil -- all too intimately. And the toxic trail he follows leads to some high and foul places.

Style very similar to Interface - these early works like Interface are more concise than the contemporary ones, less confusing than these

In this now-classic thriller, he and fellow author J. Frederick George tell a shocking tale with an all-too plausible premise. There's no way William A. Cozzano can lose the upcoming presidential election. He's a likable midwestern governor with one insidious advantage - an advantage provided by a shadowy group of backers.

I love Neal Stephenson and this may be his best book I have listened to.
It is not be so convoluted like Cryptonomicon and Baroque trilogy (loved all of these tremendously) and may have some parallels with the Diamond age.
For me this is the essence of all I love about N.Stephenson's books

    Great timing, ballanced ... Great!

The dazzling new novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series from the grand master of adventure. It is called zero point energy - a state of energy contained in all matter everywhere, and thus all but unlimited. Nobody has ever found a way to tap into it, however - until one scientist discovers a way. The problem is, his machines also cause great earthquakes. If Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala and the rest of the NUMA team aren't able to find and destroy them, and soon, the world will be on the threshold of a new era of earth tremors and unchecked volcanism.

Do not know how to express it but even though I finished the listening, this is one of the weakest of "Cussler" books.
It flows but lacks something. it begins to resemble Mr. Brown, another book off the mill, based on same recipe as before ...

This piece shows that most limits we think to be there are mostly in our minds.
Running when something is aching being an issue? This is a story of running even with sprained ankle, torn ligaments, broken fingers, etc. and not mere few miles but many of them.
Not all pain is revevant ...
Maybe not necessarily an inspiration for an approach to ones life but inspirational anyway.

Respect for Jurek and also for Dusty ...

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Beats me. Maybe make it more logical, less convoluted.

    Any additional comments?

I guess I will have to give up on Mr. Brown - it is all the same and does not get any better with repetition, on the contrary.

May 1992, and after four LAPD officers were acquitted after the savage beating of Rodney King, Los Angeles is ablaze. As looting and burning take over the city, law and order are swept away in a tidal wave of violence. But under threat of their lives, homicide detectives like Harry Bosch are still stubbornly trying to do their job. With no effective police presence on the streets, murder just got a whole lot easier - and investigating them got a whole lot harder.

Jack Ryan has only just moved back into the Oval Office when he is faced with a new international threat. An aborted coup in the People's Republic of China has left President Wei Zhen Lin with no choice but to agree with the expansionist policies of General Su Ke Quiang. They have declared the South China Sea a protectorate and are planning an invasion of Taiwan. The Ryan administration is determined to thwart China’s ambitions, but the stakes are dangerously high as a new breed of powerful Chinese anti-ship missiles endanger the US Navy's plans to protect the island.

It is the greatest advance in American defense technology in decades - an attack submarine capable of incredible underwater speeds. Nothing else in any other nation’s naval arsenal even comes close. There is only one problem: A key element of the prototype is missing - and the man who developed it is dead. At the same time, ships have started vanishing mid-ocean, usually never to be found again, but when they are, sometimes bodies are found aboard... burned to a crisp.

Where does Poseidon's Arrow rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is a standard Pitt adventure, nothing really new. So it is no letdown but no surprise either.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Poseidon's Arrow?

    Nothing to highlight.
