In the wake of interplanetary war, former commander Cordelia Naismith has deserted her own planet to marry the leader of the defeated enemy, Aral Vorkosigan. On his home planet of Barrayar, two rival factions are eyeing the recently vacated throne, and Aral, recently appointed Regent of Barrayar by the Emperor on his deathbed, must stand between them. Lord and Lady Vorkosigan, Aral and Cordelia struggle to establish stability in a fragile government thrown into confusion by the transition of power.

This has to be one of the dullest books I have picked. Boy was it hard to get through. Forget it. Several hours go by before anything of note happens!

Struggling to protect the legacy of his Traveler father, Gabriel faces troubling new questions and relentless threats. His brother Michael, now firmly allied with the enemy, pursues his ambition to wrest power from Nathan Boone, the calculating leader of the Brethren. And Maya, the Harlequin warrior pledged to protect Gabriel at all costs, is forced to make a choice that will change her life forever.

Martin says: "Didnt feel like the end of the trilogy"
    "Weakest in the series"
    Overall

I really liked book one. But as this series has progressed, it has lost direction. This third part seems somewhat empty. Things come together but its all very predictable and lacking of the cleverness of the first book. Scott reads it well as we expect of him but even he can't put life into this corpse.

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

The story is quite good and held my interest, however that was not in anyway because of the narrator. Monotonous voice, no emotion - it's arguable that the character had low emotion but this was to the point of being incredibly dull!

Sole Survivor unfolds at a heart-stopping pace, as a desperate chase and a shattering emotional odyssey lead Joe to a truth that will force him to reassess everything he thought he knew about life and death, a truth that, given the chance, will rock the world and redefine the destiny of humanity.

This starts out well enough but as it morphs into a vehicle for intelligent design it really goes to pieces. He should have left it as a supernatural thriller instead of trying to introduce ID rubbish. The argument that is used in the book for ID even contradicts itself (who designed the designer). Not one of his better books...This starts out well enough but as it morphs into a vehicle for intelligent design it really goes to pieces. "Not the TV Series"
    Overall

As a fan of the TV series I figured I should check out where it came from. This is not the TV series. This is a trashy romance novel. Very disappointed. Gone are all the interesting sub-plots. All she cares about is, well, very one track. If you're a fan of the TV series, forget these books.

I admit I was a bit hesitant to download this book, since it has received a fair bit of criticism due to the direction it takes, however listening to the three books one after each other it actually seems a natural progression. I should say the books and the TV series separated somewhere in book 1 so I treated these as a completely different series and as such it doesn't disappoint. Awaiting book 4 this summer!

Thirteen-year-old Mau is the only one left after a giant wave sweeps his island village away. But when much is taken, something is returned, and somewhere in the jungle, Daphne - a girl from the other side of the globe - is the sole survivor of a ship destroyed by the same wave.

    James says: "Transcends categories"
    "A Kid's book for adults"
    Overall

This is Pratchett at his subversive best. A welcome change to the Discworld books. In some ways you can ignore the 'Audible Kids' reference, that is simply because the protagonist is a teenager. This book can easily be enjoyed by the young and old alike. It is quite a dark story in some ways, so I would say it's maybe unsuitable for the really young, but maybe 12+ is the best ages.

It's a fear more paralyzing than falling. More terrifying than absolute darkness. More horrifying than anything you can imagine. It's the one fear you cannot escape, no matter where you run...no matter where you hide. It's the fear of yourself. It's real. It can happen to you. And facing it can be deadly.

Dohna says: "Koontz did it again......."
    "One of his best"

This is one of Mr K's best. Even though there are some clearly unrealistic plot devices, he keeps the pace cranked right up so your suspension of disbelief rides straight over them. Would make a great movie!

When CIA "fixer" Micah Dalton's friend and mentor turns up dead, he's put on a collision course with a killer who has a penchant for intricate knife-work and Native American mysticism, a sadist who is killing ex-CIA agents. The victims are hard-nosed field men whose only link to one another seems to be a global surveillance operation called Echelon. The murders appear to be acts of retribution. But for what?

Although a little slow to get started, once going this was a great listen. Lots of interesting twists. Kept thinking I should try and buy the movie rights ;) as it would make a great film...

At nine, Tiffany Aching defeated the cruel Queen of Fairyland. At 11, she banished an ancient body-stealing evil. At 13, Tiffany faces a new challenge: a boy. And boys can be a bit of a problem when you're 13. But the Wintersmith isn't exactly a boy. He is winter itself.

    "Mr P does it again"
    Overall

Once again we have a delightful story about Tiffany which will delight both the young listener and the adults... Where as in the written form these books are really for 9+ the Audible version can be easily enjoyed by the younger siblings. And if you don't have kids well no matter they are just as much fun for you too... I would suggest you start with the Wee Free Men and Hat Full of Sky, so you hear Tiffany's tale in order...
