Husband-and-wife team Sam and Remi Fargo are in Mexico, when they come upon a remarkable discovery - the skeleton of a man clutching an ancient sealed pot, and within the pot, a Mayan book, larger than anyone has ever seen. The book contains astonishing information about the Mayans, about their cities, and about mankind itself. The secrets are so powerful that some people would do anything to possess them - as the Fargos are about to find out. Before their adventure is done, many men and women will die for that book - and Sam and Remi may just be among them.

Andrew Yancy - late of the Miami Police and soon-to-be-late of the Monroe County sheriff’s office - has a human arm in his freezer. There’s a logical (Hiaasenian) explanation for that, but not for how and why it parted from its shadowy owner. Yancy thinks the boating-accident/shark-luncheon explanation is full of holes, and if he can prove murder, the sheriff might rescue him from his grisly Health Inspector gig (it’s not called the roach patrol for nothing). But first - this being Hiaasen country - Yancy must negotiate an obstacle course of wildly unpredictable events with a crew of even more wildly unpredictable characters.

One of the 20th century's most challenging novels of ideas, The Fountainhead champions the cause of individualism through the story of a gifted young architect who defies the tyranny of conventional public opinion. The struggle for personal integrity in a world that values conformity above creativity is powerfully illustrated through three characters: Howard Roarke, a genius; Gail Wynand, a newspaper mogul and self-made millionaire; and Dominique Francon, a devastating beauty.

What made the experience of listening to The Fountainhead the most enjoyable?

Being able to draw parallels to today and the past was scary. I enjoyed how the main character was never ashamed by wanting to be the best "him" that he could be.

Who was your favorite character and why?

York was my favorite character. He was always trying to be true to himself. The struggle to be not just an architect but a man that stood firm to what he believed to be right.

    Any additional comments?

This book shows how people in the media and the "know" use their positions to push their agenda. Sometimes because they believe in it , other times just because they can.

We colonized 700 planets. Humankind enjoyed the benefits of expansion room and the end of wars. We even disbanded our military. Then the Krall found us. The Krall have used thousands of years of combat to select the genes of the strongest and fastest warriors. They are a species determined to dominate the entire galaxy, through destruction and annihilation of every opponent.

Koban is an uninhabited high-gravity planet with impossibly fast savage animals, which employ organic superconducting nerves. This deadly world is where the Krall tested humans for war capability.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I liked that it was on another world and species that totally outclassed humans

What was one of the most memorable moments of Koban?

The male population got reduced so dramatically that men are just now starting to get their equality in society back.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Patrick Freeman?

I plan on getting the next book if there is one

Do you think Koban needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

It's primed for a follow up. But how far into the future? A fee books could be written just about the war that's about to start

An unflinching look at the aspiring city-builders of our smart, mobile, connected future. We live in a world defined by urbanization and digital ubiquity, where mobile broadband connections outnumber fixed ones, machines dominate a new "internet of things," and more people live in cities than in the countryside.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Less man is destroying the world and golly keepers we can all work together

How could the performance have been better?

It's basically a documentary. The narrator doesn't need to do anything but talk with one voice

Did Smart Cities inspire you to do anything?

Yes..I will use it for restarting civilization after the zombies have attacked !!!!

    Any additional comments?

Overall it was a very interesting book. It showed the blue prints that are all around us everyday to make our modern world better. They show how cities have used new wireless tech to create needed subsystems for city services. They comment how one city was planned to be high tech and didn't work, but another that grew more organically and wasn't per planned ,becomes a great tech city. It's a very good book, like all documentary style it does bog down in places.
