Tita is the youngest daughter of Mama Elena, the tyrannical owner of the De la Garza ranch. As the youngest, she is expected to remain single and stay at home to care for her mother. So when Tita falls in love, Mama Elena arranges for Tita's older sister to marry Tita's young man.

    Linda says: "A delicious story"
"Life is a point of view"
    Overall

The book is a mixture of fable and history. History in the sense of how life might have been in that time period. The material doesn't pull the punches on sexuality, envy, lust, romance, and love. The reader has a great voice, and sometimes that's half the battle. I recommend it, it's a "ok" / "good" book.

Now here at last, is McCourt's long-awaited audiobook about how his thirty-year teaching career shaped his second act as a writer. Teacher Man is also an urgent tribute to teachers everywhere. In bold and spirited prose featuring his irreverent wit and heartbreaking honesty, McCourt records the trials, triumphs, and surprises he faces in public high schools around New York City.

Mark says: "Fun, quick, well done!"
    "stop whinnying"
    Overall

All the author does is, well... complain. This is one unhappy guy, with lots of regrets and hang-ups. I thought he'd give insight on how to teach, insight on life, insight on something. He's one negative guy, how did this guy become a famous teacher? Sounds like he never wanted to be a teacher in the first place, which is funny because he says to do what makes you happy.

It's the ultimate road trip. Legendary investor Jim Rogers and his fiancee travel to 116 countries in a custom-built, four-wheel-drive, bright yellow Mercedes. Over three years, they make their way through war zones, are guarded by military convoys, observe a 50-million-person pilgrimage, eat disgusting food, put the car on barges for transport between countries, and have their lives threatened at every turn.

    "Have car, will travel"
    Overall

I thought it was entertaining. No, the author isn't a professional reader, but his southern accent grows on you. I was simply amazed that he drove around the world. Anyone who drives around the world has to have some sort of opinion about things. As a successful business man, his insight was mainly from an investors point of view. He makes it personal though, as if you were in the car and he was showing you around town. You won't walk away knowing the meaning of life, but I think you will be inspired to go out and find it.

Medicine Creek, Kansas, has been slowly dying for the last century. In a town where nothing changes, the community is terrified after a series of grisly murders takes place. Even more alarming, the bodies are displayed in bizarre tableaus. With the entire town in shock, FBI Agent Pendergast arrives from New Orleans to investigate. From the fields to the local caves, Pendergast discovers the remnants of a Prohibition-era moonshine operation and the truth behind one of the town's greatest mysteries.

Venice says: "So Exciting! Like watching a film!"
    "Two Thumbs UP!"
    Overall

    Narrarator: Awesome!
    Authors: Very GOOD!
    Production/Music: Not Bad!

Ever watched a great television series that you couldn't wait for the next episode to come?! This is sort of like that! It's good solid entertainment! No, you won't solve the worlds problems, get rich in 30 days, or figure out the meaning of life listening to the Pendergast series (or maybe you will!), but you will definitely sit tight glued to your MP3 player! Since this is a series of books, I suggest to download earlier books and listen how the writers evolves the character. The Authors refers to Cabinet of Curiosities just a little, but the book definite stands on it's own if you never heard pervious works. Tt

  • The Art of War

"To win without fighting is best," Sun Tzu said. For the Chinese philosopher/general war was synchronic with life. Tzu viewed the world as a network of combat zones where the stakes were high and struggle was the primary mode of being, where no one was to be trusted, and survival depended on nothing less than unconditional victory. Actors Ron Silver and B.D. Wong narrate this 2,500-year-old work of wisdom that continues to guide and inspire people of all cultures, teaching the principles of strategy required in everything from sports, to business, to affairs of the heart. Augmented by commentary and anecdotes, this audio edition maintains the pure, near-poetic tone of the original.

  • It's Not About the Bike: My Journey Back to Life

People around the world have found inspiration in the story of Lance Armstrong - a world-class athlete nearly struck down in his prime, who fought back to win the world's most grueling test of cycling, the Tour de France. It's Not About the Bike is the amazing story of Armstrong's journey from inauspicious beginnings, through triumph, tragedy, transformation, and transcendence.

    Brenda says: "Inspirational"
    "Fighter"
    Overall

Cancer can hit anyone, even an world athlete. If Armstrong didn't have cancer, I'd say he's one cocky son of a gun. Rightfully so, considered what he's accomplished. But he did have cancer, and it was inspiring to listen how he fought his way out of it, cocky and all. Good book, I recommend it.
