In Biloxi, Mississippi, a landmark tobacco trial with hundreds of millions of dollars at stake begins routinely, then swerves mysteriously off course. The jury is behaving strangely, and at least one juror is convinced he's being watched...

This was my first John Grisham novel mostly because I have not been a fan of legal dramas, but this book I thoroughly enjoyed and I have already purchased his latest book. The book starts off a little slow but this does not last long because as I got into the book I found that I hard time leaving it. He developed the characters very well to the point that I felt that I knew these people and that I was alternate juror or sitting with the attorney's as they planned the case as it progressed. The book never gets boring as there is always something going on with either the jury and some of its querky people or one side or the other of the attorney's to keep the action and intrigue going. Frank Muller did a great job of narrating as he had a great voice for this type of book and had a different voice for each character as well.

With vividly realized characters and a breathtaking pace, Last Man Standing is another spellbinding title from David Baldacci, best selling author of Wish You Well. When the FBI Hostage Rescue Team is ambushed, it is up to sole survivor Web London to find the killer.

Would you be willing to try another book from David Baldacci? Why or why not?

No, because he is a "hit and miss author" in that he can have good books and others are not so good like this one is. This is the second book I have listened to from David Baldacci the first one I rated 5 stars and this one 3 stars. The reason this book is 21 hours long is that many scenes are described in minute detail. For example their was a meal he tells you every thing in the meal. He does this type of thing in many other situations as well.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Jason Culp?

I think he did a poor job in that his reading speed would vary from Normal to very slow, at a couple of points I increased the play back speed to 1.25. He also several times mispronounced words as if he wasn't paying attention to what he was reading or the context in which the words are used.

Could you see Last Man Standing being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    No.

    Any additional comments?

You likely can tell I was disappointed with this book, in my opinion if The author had left out much of the unnecessary detailed descriptions and used another narrator the book would have been much better.

Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden is Chicago's only openly practicing wizard. He is also dead broke. His vast knowledge and magical skills are unfortunately matched by his talent for making powerful enemies and alienating friends. With little more than his integrity left, he accepts an offer of work from Lt. Karin Murphy of Chicago's Special Investigations Unit. He wants to redeem himself in Murphy's eyes and make enough money to quiet his rumbling stomach.

    Overall

This book was well written and narrated and I enjoyed listening to it. The only thing about it that gave me pause was some of the characters in it (without giving anything away), at first this took me time to get used to as it was along stretch from reality, but once I got it in my mind that this is fantasy (something I don't read much) I was fine with it. In the end I felt that it was worth the time and credit.

In Robert Ludlum's ground-breaking career, no other character so captured the world's imagination as Jason Bourne. He appeared in three of Robert Ludlum's own best-selling novels, his best-selling works to this day. Now, with the major motion picture adaptation of Ludlum's The Bourne Supremacy, the Ludlum estate has finally acceded to the demands of readers around the world, turning to best-selling writer Eric Van Lustbader to create a brand new Jason Bourne novel, The Bourne Legacy.

Linda says: "It sure reads like a Ludlum book!"
    "A disappointing & boring book"
    Overall

I found this book to be very boring, so much so that by the time I was almost half way through it I stopped listening to it and gave up. I chose this book because I enjoyed listening to Bourne Betrayal and had read that this book was so much like Robert Ludlum's writing. I think it is nothing like Robert. Ludlum's writing as he was not boring like this garbage. I think if you want to read Robert Ludlum do it, but don't expect that Eric Van Lustbader is anything like him, because he is not most of the time.

A call from a distraught wife, and another from Lt Murphy of the Chicago PD Special Investigation Unit makes Harry believe things are looking up, but they are about to get worse, much worse. Someone is harnessing immense supernatural forces to commit a series of grisly murders. Someone has violated the first law of magic: Thou Shalt Not Kill. Tracking that someone takes Harry into the dangerous underbelly of Chicago, from mobsters.

Tom says: "Excellent Story, Distracting Sound Engineering"
"This is a well written enjoyable listen"
    Overall

This is my fist book where there is magic and this one is done in such away that it makes sense and doesn't challenge your intelligence to believe it. I enjoyed listening to it as it is well written from the main character's, first person. James Marsters does a great job with the narration in that he is easy to listen to and uses good inflections for the other characters.

Before he was considered a CIA superagent, before he was thought of as a terrorists worst nightmare, and before he was both loathed and admired by the politicians on Capitol Hill, Mitch Rapp was a gifted college athlete without a care in the world . . . and then tragedy struck.

A User says: "Flynn never disappoints"
"A very enjoyable & addictive listen"
    Overall

This was my first Vince Flynn novel and I am now a fan of his and planning to buy previous works of his. This is a great spy book as it seems very realistic in that it has real politics and views the people behind the spies and realistic action situations. George Guidall did a great job with the narration as he has a great voice for this type of book and used great inflections for each character. As I listened to it I found that I had a hard time stopping it, as it was addictive to listen to.

In a world of conflicted loyalties, rapidly diminishing human power, and the possibility that anyone can be a spy, what's at stake is nothing less than human freedom's last hope to survive the technology revolution.

James says: "wow - a must read"
"Entertaining book by a great author"
    Overall

This was a very entertaining listen and the narator Jeff Gurner did a very good job as well, using very good voices for each of the charactars. Unlike it's predecessor book Daemon, many of the technical details are not as believable. But taken as a whole it was good entertainment.

But passion and seduction have rules of their own, and it's up to Eve to take a chance in the arms of a man she knows nothing about - except the addictive hunger of needing his touch.

Felicity Fairchild says: "Don't Judge the Series by the First Book!"
"A good book that may have to much twist to it"
    Overall

I very much enjoyed listening to 90% of the book as it has everything, suspense, sex and action, but in a later part of the book their are some parts about explicit incest. I feel that this was a required part of the story but maybe it did not have to be told in such an explicit way, as listening to this I did not enjoy. Otherwise it was a great book, well written & narrated too.

Flowers is only in his late 30's, but he's been around the block a few times, and he doesn't think much can surprise him anymore. He's wrong. It's a hot, humid summer night in Minnesota, and Flowers is in bed with one of his ex-wives (the second one , if you're keeping count ) when the phone rings. It's Lucas Davenport. There's a body in Stillwater, two shots to the head, found near a veterans' memorial. And the victim has a lemon in his mouth.

Brian says: "What audio books should be"
    "One of John Sandfords best"
    Overall

I have listened to a few other of John Standford's books and this is the best one I have heard so far. It has it all with a great deal of suspense that kept me trying to figure out who was the killer and I was not sure until the end of the book. There was plenty of action as well with the different murders and Virgil's always interesting personal life intertwined into it too. All of this and excellent narrating by Eric Conger made this a very enjoyable listen.

Thousands of autonomous computer programs, or daemons, make our networked world possible, running constantly in the background of our lives, trafficking e-mail, transferring money, and monitoring power grids. For the most part, daemons are benign, but the same can't always be said for the people who design them.

"A great listen, held my attention all the time"
    Overall

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this novel as it had all kinds of intrigue and action especially the high tech kind using things that we deal with all the time and they are used in a very ingenious ways. The action and suspense of what will happen next starts at the beginning and continues to the end. It is certainly worth the credit and time.
