After a sad and neglected childhood as an orphan, Jane Eyre was hired by Edward Rochester as governess for his ward. Jane was pleased with the quiet country life at Thornfield, with the beautiful old manor house and gardens, with the book-filled library, and with her own comfortable room. But there were stories of a strange tenant, a woman who laughed like a maniac, and who stayed in rooms on the third floor.

    "Jane Eyre done to perfection!"

If you could sum up Jane Eyre [Brilliance Edition] in three words, what would they be?

    Classic done right.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jane, of course. Just think of a world where everyone lived by her ethics.

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The difficulty in listening to books you're already familiar with is that there's a tendency to "zone out" occasionally. Some narrators read in a repetitive manner which makes it very difficult to stay connected to the story. Susan Ericksen's performance had me riveted! Listening to a story with the appropriate accent is sometimes better than just trying to imagine it while reading! I almost never read or listen to anything twice, but will definitely listen to Jane Eyre again. In addition, I will look for Susan Ericksen's name when looking for new books in the future.

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s easy to say that when it comes to sci-fi you either love it or you hate it. But with Ender’s Game, it seems to be you either love it or you love it.... The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Enter Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, the result of decades of genetic experimentation.

Kapila says: "6 titles in the series so far"
"Not much of a sci-fi fan, but I sure loved this!"

What made the experience of listening to Ender's Game the most enjoyable?

    Great narration and story.

What did you like best about this story?

What I liked best was that no matter what happened to Ender, he maintained his integrity. Don't we all like to think we'd do the same?

What does Stefan Rudnicki and Harlan Ellison bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

There's a depth that's added to a story when the characters are portrayed in a way that makes them endearing, or even hated for that matter. The narration on this was inspired.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Every time poor Ender cried about just wanting to go home.

    Any additional comments?

Sorry I waited so long to listen to this.

Eight hundred women and children begin a 1,200-mile journey on foot across Japanese-occupied Malaya. At journey’s end, only 30 will still be alive. This is the story of one woman, of her ordeal, and of how she was saved by the sacrifice of an Australian soldier. It is a story of rare individual courage in the face of certain death, and hope in the face of despair.

  • Dracula [Cherry Hill Edition]

Although myths about vampires had existed since ancient times, Bram Stoker's Dracula is considered by many to be the work that launched the vampire into the human lexicon, and is undoubtedly the most popular and well-known vampire story ever written. Stoker's inspirations for Count Dracula are heavily debated, but most agree that Dracula was based in part on the historical figure of Vlad the Impaler, a fifteenth-century Romanian ruler known for his indiscriminate brutality, which included a taste for impaling people alive on wooden spikes and watching them die in slow agony.

Lisa says: "Pay the price for a better narrator"

Would you listen to Dracula [Cherry Hill Edition] again? Why?

Probably wouldn't listen to it again. So many books, so little time!

Have you listened to any of Roger Watson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I had not previously, but would choose a book narrated by him in the future.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes.
