Although his father had been reluctant to become a field operative, Jack Ryan Jr. wants nothing more. Privately training with a seasoned Special Forces drill instructor, he’s honing his skills to transition his work within The Campus from intelligence analysis to hunting down and eliminating terrorists wherever he can—even as Jack Ryan Sr. campaigns for re-election as President of the United States. But what neither father nor son knows is that the political and the personal have just become equally dangerous.

    Story
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone who likes lots of detail about the characters, location and politics; and don't mind if the story drags on and on and on.

What could Tom Clancy and Mark Greaney have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Cut back on the characters (way to many to keep up with) the story didn't grab me and I didn't know where it was going, I didn't know who was significant to the story. I couldn't follow who were the good guys and who were the bad guys. I didn't know why some characters were introduced into the story.

What does Lou Diamond Phillips bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Lou Diamond Phillips was great...I personally think the story needs a re-write.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

...I am more than half way through the story and so far the answer would be done. I am going to finish it (it's taken awhile-because I don't like it) and unless some miracle pops out at the end I am sticking with done.P.S. If, some miracle pops out at the end I will come back and update this remark.

    Any additional comments?

Often I don't give much credit to reviews that rate 1 or 2 when the majority of the ratings are 4's and 5's but next time I will read them and consider them more than I have in the past.

When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, it becomes clear that there is more to Quine's disappearance than his wife realizes. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows.

What disappointed you about The Silkworm?

The story is boring, the narrator is boring and the plot is boring. Okay I pre-ordered and did not have any reviews to help with my decision to use my well guarded credits. I did not read "Cuckoo's Calling" first, it's in my wish list but I may remove...per the reviews it was so much better than Silkworm. Alright let me put all the cards on the table, I am only on chapter 13 and I have rewind at least 10 times. It has taken me 2 weeks to get to chapter 13. I feel like I am being dragged by my feet and my stretched out hands are digging into the floor trying to grab hold. When I get to the end I may have to come back and update my review...maybe it gets better in later chapters. I will finish...albeit kicking and screaming.

Has The Silkworm turned you off from other books in this genre?

No but, I am reconsidering purchasing Cuckoo's Calling by the same author.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Robert Glenister?

Oh my, there are so many...my favorite is Scott Brick. I would cast Rene Auberjonois or Charles Rosenburg or Peter Giles.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Silkworm?

To be fair I need to get further in the book before I commit to cutting scenes. Since there is 56 chapters and I am on chapter 13...I would like to have seen more character developing; going a little deeper into some of the main characters (perhaps it was done in the first book).

    Any additional comments?

OMG these first 13 chapters are a struggle...this is not a easy listen...it is not grabbing me and I am not excited about the next chapters.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes in deed, this book answers so many questions regarding the food we eat and it's travels through our digestive system.

What other book might you compare Nutrition Made Clear to and why?

I don't have any comparative books because this is the best I have listen/read, period.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    All the chapters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I started looking at how I ate as a child and compared it to how I eat now and I can say I have lost some of those habits instilled in me from my parents, you know chew (100 times) your food slowly, sit at the table with no TV present, fruit/veggies at every meal, only water on the table (no sugar drinks) and the big one small plates. The fast food crave was not around even when we would buy a burger we had to wait for our individual order to be cooked nothing was ready for you under a heat lamp.

    Any additional comments?

I would recommend this book to be in your top 10...to be revisited and discussed yearly. I would like to purchased the guide that comes along with the book...disadvantage when purchased as an audible.

What made the experience of listening to Hostage the most enjoyable?

Fast pace and not knowing what was coming next.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hostage?

When the fake FBI arrived on the scene and at the hotel, it was like watching Client Eastwood corner the bad guy...there was no way out for them.

What does James Daniels bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice was real you could picture yourself at the theater watching it on the big screen. He really brought the characters to life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The ending...when he was able to share with his wife something that had bottled up inside of him and he would not release to anyone!

STOP. You should not have touched this flyer with your bare hands. NO, don't put it down. It's too late. They're watching you. My name is David Wong. My best friend is John. Those names are fake. You might want to change yours. You may not want to know about the things you'll read on these pages, about the sauce, about Korrok, about the invasion, and the future. But it's too late. You touched the book. You're in the game. You're under the eye. The only defense is knowledge. You need to read this book, to the end. Even the part with the bratwurst. Why?

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Completely change the story line, it sound like I was in a comedy club listening to different acts with no connection to any of them.

Would you ever listen to anything by David Wong again?

It's questionable...I'll read more of the reviews instead of the first 3.

Have you listened to any of Stephen R. Thorne’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No but, I found the narrator was very good, his diction was excellent and clear.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Big disappointment...I read the summary but the overall story miss the target.

    Any additional comments?

I think Wong was trying to be a "Brother Odd" book and missed the target by miles.

Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

What did you love best about Sycamore Row?

Jake Brigance's role...he was very believable. I like the twist at the end you know something is coming but what you don't find out until the last chapter. There was a little bit of humor with his college friend (and lawyer).

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I was on edging waiting to see what was going to happen with the hand-written Will is it legit or written by a mad man?

What does Michael Beck bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Oh my the Southern draw was right on target and he was able to give each character a distinct voice.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Hearing Seth Hubbard's brother tell the story of what they saw as young boys and cruelty of their father.

    Any additional comments?

Great book the kind you don't mind listening to again in 6 months.

Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be. Vic doesn't tell anyone about her unusual ability, because she knows no one will believe her. She has trouble understanding it herself.

What would have made NOS4A2 better?

A shorter version...it was to long in the middle, I personally did not like the profanity, dysfunctional families, pedophile suggestions, and the rape by Bing was gross. I struggled to get through this audible book...several times I was going to fast forward just to be done because, the story dragged on and on.

Has NOS4A2 turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. I am a fan of S.King have listened or read all of his books. I like this genre just couldn't wrap my head around where J. Hill was going with this story. In some parts holes were left in the story and in other parts holes were filled in to the point that it was overflowing and unnecessary.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Tone and diction were fine...but for me the male and female character voices were blurred Vic sounded masculine and Lou and Max were high pitched.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The redeeming qualities were seeing the results of bad parenting and dysfunctional families can lead to another generation of bad parenting and dysfunctional family.

Vic was clearly the hero, it was good to listen to her redeem herself at the end after years of a tortured life with drugs, sex, and demons. She admits to her part of over-reacting to her parents behavior towards her and that she wasn't a good mother when she abandoned her son (Bruce Wayne). This was my first Joe Hill book...I may try again.

    Any additional comments?

I was going to give the over all story 1 star but after listening to the author at the end explain his rationale for writing the story I moved up to 2 stars. The preview I listen to sounded okay. Reading the comments...most were positive and only a few were negative so I made my purchase because the positive comments out-weighted the negative comments. However in this case the negative comments were on target with my thoughts on this audible book.

Once presided over by a flamboyant Hollywood mogul during the Roaring ’20s, the magnificent West Coast property known as Roseland is now home to a reclusive billionaire financier and his faithful servants. And, for the moment, it’s also a port in the storm for Odd Thomas and his traveling companion, the inscrutably charming Annamaria. In the wake of Odd’s most recent clash with lethal adversaries, the opulent manor’s comforts should be welcome. But there’s far more to Roseland than meets even the extraordinary eye of Odd, who soon suspects it may be more hell than haven.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes and no...I enjoy the Odd series but, this one was a little to much on the dark side. I found myself drafting in and out of the story. It did not grab me the way the previous books had me wanting more.

Has Odd Apocalypse turned you off from other books in this genre?

No...even though I think the author miss the mark in my opinion I will try another Odd book.

Have you listened to any of David Aaron Baker’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I believe his performance was great probably why I stayed with the story to the end.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No a chance.

    Any additional comments?

I think the back stories needed to be developed more before bring them into the big picture. Too much darkness all the way to the end. I left this novel with many unanswered questions and too much death and mutilated bodies (especially women).
