The United States is more vulnerable than ever to an EMP attack that could shut down the country overnight, resulting in tens of millions of deaths and a 19th-century lifestyle for Americans for the foreseeable future, says a new book, A Nation Forsaken, written by a long-time national security expert. Even worse, the threat doesn't just come from terrorists, but from unpreventable solar activity - and a new peak period is on the way,

At the top, this is the first audiobook I have listened to.

    No characters...

What about Mike Ortego’s performance did you like?

He was easy to listen to and he held my attention, no over dramatics, nor dull and monotonous.

If you could give A Nation Forsaken a new subtitle, what would it be?

    Oblivious America!

    Any additional comments?

For a first time user of audio books, I like this format. Fits into my day with ease, can use it when I decide to.

  • One Second After

Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Would you try another book from William R. Forstchen and/or Joe Barrett?

    no

What did you like best about this story?

The possible scenerio was interesting, eye opening, but very difficult to follow.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Joe Barrett?

    yes, without so much cursing

What character would you cut from One Second After?

    blurred by the cussing

    Any additional comments?

Loud music played behind someone so as to drown out what they are saying it what I compare this to...only this wasn't music, it was the cussing. Perhaps this book would be easier as a read, more comprehensive, but audibly the story was almost impossible to follow due to the constant cussing. The reader really got into it, so much so, that it over-shadowed what was going on. Won't rush to listen to the second half, because it was a strain to understand what was going on due to the bombardment of continuous cussing. Really would like to hear the book, minus the overkill of cuss words...way too distracting to the story. I believe a cuss word, well timed and placed can be effective...but at age 67 have never heard, in all my life, so much of it.
