  • Tough Sh-t: Life Advice from a Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 58 mins)
    • By Kevin Smith
    • Narrated By Kevin Smith
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Take one look at Kevin Smith: He's a balding fatty who wears a size XXL hockey jersey, shorts, and slippers year-round. Not a likely source for life advice. But take a second look at Kevin Smith: He changed filmmaking forever when he was twenty-four with the release of Clerks, and since then has gone on to make nine more profitable movies, runs his own production company, wrote a best-selling graphic novel, and has a beautiful wife and kids. So he must be doing something right.

Pamela says: "Such a likable slob!"
    "No life advice here!"
What disappointed you about Tough Sh-t?

If you love Kevin Smith, this is for you. If you like Kevin Smith… not so much. This is his chronicled life story, which I am not interested in. I thought it would be a bunch of insights on different life topics. While his "insights" are semi woven into his biography its not what I was looking for. Even though I think him to be very clever and creative I just don't care about his story.

What do you think your next listen will be?

What three words best describe Kevin Smith’s performance?

    Good, OK, and Meh.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

  • DEAD: Winter

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 34 mins)
    • By TW Brown
    • Narrated By Andrew McFerrin

Winter is coming... As survivors around the world struggle to get their feet under them in a world overrun by the walking dead, a new problem rears its head. As unstoppable as any horde of zombies, the seasons march on, heedless of the fragility of the human race. The first winter is approaching.

    Peligrie says: "Still going strong"
"You should be ashamed of yourself Mr. TW Brown!"
What would have made DEAD: Winter better?

If the Author had been concerned about his novel rather than cashing his checks. If there was a plot. If there had been some character development. If there had been some interesting scenarios the character had encountered. If the new characters introduced had any ability to make you care or be interested in them.

What was most disappointing about TW Brown’s story?

Basically this book is completely empty of substance, half hearted, and lazy. It's 11.5 hours of words strung together with out anything being said.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Andrew McFerrin?

Mr. McFerrin is fine, maybe he could read a turd of a story like this one faster to help end the listener's suffering sooner.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Well, I'm only 10 hours into the book so far, so there is hope that the zombies will overtake all of the current survivors thereby extinguishing the human race and this book series with it.

    Any additional comments?

I thought of this series as a good B- series of zombies novels, (until this one). Sometimes even rising to a solid A. But Wow! I will certainly be asking for my credit back.

  • Hunted: The Iron Druid Chronicles, Book 6

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 52 mins)
    • By Kevin Hearne
    • Narrated By Luke Daniels
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

For a 2,000-year-old Druid, Atticus O’Sullivan is a pretty fast runner. Good thing, because he’s being chased by not one but two goddesses of the hunt - Artemis and Diana - for messing with one of their own. Dodging their slings and arrows, Atticus, Granuaile, and his wolfhound Oberon are making a mad dash across modern-day Europe to seek help from a friend of the Tuatha Dé Danann. His usual magical option of shifting planes is blocked, so instead of playing hide-and-seek, the game plan like hell.

D says: "Another Serving of Hilari-tea"
    "Dragging this one out."
Would you try another book from Kevin Hearne and/or Luke Daniels?

Fist let me say I've really enjoyed this series. I was really excited when the book was released, but the lack of intrigue and action coupled with excessive detail regarding inconsequential matters tells me they just want to extend this storyline into more books. Uhhg! I found myself skipping ahead in the chapters.

What was most disappointing about Kevin Hearne’s story?

    Unnecessary drivel.

Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This book was too slow in the development in the story, much of it telegraphed long before it's completion taking any of the punch out of it.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It's keeping me abreast in the series.

  • Decide to Play Great Poker: A Strategy Guide to No-limit Texas Hold Em

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 22 mins)
    • By Annie Duke, John Vorhaus
    • Narrated By Annie Duke
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Ask the great poker players how they'd play a hand and the answer is always "it depends." That answer can be infuriating. But guess what? It really does depend. The key to becoming a great poker player is in knowing what it depends on. At last there's a book that gives you that answer. Poker is a game of so many variables; table position, flop texture, the number of players in a hand, the personalities of your opponents, and so much more.

Amazon Customer says: "Make the Decision to Buy this Audio Book"
    "So much better than expected."
If you could sum up Decide to Play Great Poker in three words, what would they be?

    Substance, Execution, Non-filler.

What did you like best about this story?

    Not a story.

What does John Vorhaus and Annie Duke bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Made me no longer hate Annie.

    Any additional comments?

I bought this audio book, not expecting much. Most, if not all of the poker literature by famous poker players is junk, with lots of fluff and self adulation. Being the poker junkie I am, I went ahead and downloaded it. Right from the start Annie jumps into discussing theory and concepts of the game in a way that shows what can only be the mind of not only a good player but a great teacher who's sole purpose was to put out a great product. And it is. A lot of

  • Ghost Story: The Dresden Files, Book 13 - Free First Chapter

    • UNABRIDGED (10 mins)
    • By Jim Butcher
    • Narrated By John Glover

When we last left the mighty wizard detective Harry Dresden, he wasn't doing well. In fact, he had been murdered by an unknown assassin. But being dead doesn't stop him when his friends are in danger. Except now he has nobody, and no magic to help him. And there are also several dark spirits roaming the Chicago shadows who owe Harry some payback of their own. To save his friends-and his own soul-Harry will have to pull off the ultimate trick without any magic...

    Lifelong Reader says: "Beyond disappointed"
"Someone better lose their job over this!"

The first person should be John Glover. I am shocked that this change of narrator was even considered let alone given the green light. I actually feel insulted, (strictly an emotional response, I know its silly) that they can have any yahoo garble this, my Dresden Files (emotion) and we should lap it up and like it. If you have listened to the previous books listen to the free preview before buying. Then after the free preview don't be swayed by your heart strings, this hack sounds awful!
