Jim Frangione really made this series for me. I had never read any of J R Wards books but decided to give it a try. I was so thoroughly entertained. I hope Jim will continue to narrate any of the Brother Hood series. The language was hilarious, the build up sensuous and the series intriguing.
You have to listen more than once. The story is so intricate that it is easy to miss something while you are laughing out loud.
This is a story about true life back in the those times. Hardships that are hard to imagine today, gut wrenching tragedy and hopelessness. Told with a sense of humor that was necessary to keep you from falling into depression.
I could go on and on about Simon Vance forever plus two days. He is a true narrator. He is what every narrator should ascribe to be. So many voices to perfection. He brings characters to life so strongly, you see them, loving some and hating others just by the tone of his voice. Listening I feel so fortunate that this combination of Dickens and Vance exists.
Its hard to pick one moment. I laughed, I cried, I cheered and I jeered. So many great characters you never want it to end.
Greatest thing I find about getting older is that in a few months I can go back and listen to it again and it will be just as new to me as the first time! Ahhh senility isn't so bad after all.
I don't tend to go for best sellers. In this case I waited way too long. It took me days to finish because I didn't want it to end. The raw honesty and great narration combine for an awesome listen.
I didn't grow up in America and tend to forget the history from the not so distant past. This book serves to remind us about the foundation on which we now stand.
I can't recommend this book enough. Is a glimpse into the south in the early 60"s and allows you to truly live out the lives of these maids and their employers. There is so much of life you don't think about because you haven't lived it. This book brings you right there up to the window pane.
At times I was the crazy lady laughing out loud while out walking. Other times wiping away tears, Kathryn Stockett this is the book you were put on earth to write. Fortunately enough the perfect narrators were also here at the right time.
This will forever be one of my favorites. I can't thank you enough.
