When I first started to listen to this story I was a little skeptical about the storyline and characters because I was not all to sure that I would be able to like one of the main character who had been an abuser - I mean normally they are the bad guys in the stories? But surprisingly this is actually a very sweet story and I enjoyed listening. It is a little different than most M/M romances by having a more serious storyline but it still makes my top 10. Narrator is fine.
I liked the way this story centers on the two boys, who just on the verge of discovering them selfes and each other, becomes the victims of violence and lies and the story actually starts when they se each other serveral year later.
So they have a lot of baggage to overcome if they are to become a couple.
The story has a lot of flash backs from either MC and normaly im not a flashback fan. It works for this story and the author is able to write it so that you feel like you are seing the world from a younger and much more innocent boy.
Maybe not my top ten but Its worth a listen.
I loved "Brute" and maybe that made me expect too much of this book. Its not a bad story, really. But it doesnt feel like a lovestory and I dont think that you get to know the MCs very well. All the parts are there but you really dont feel connected. It seems to me to be more a story of the MC breaking free from a live he really dont want than a lovestory, and eventhough there is nothing wrong with that storyline, it wasnt what I expected and bottomline is I expected to be moved by the story and wasnt, so a little dissapointed.
This is absolutely in my top ten. The MC are very unique - both the detective and the young man he finds so irresistible that he becomes gay overnight. And the story have twists that you dont guess beforehand. Love the "brothers" and cant wait for the next story to get released. This book has its own ending, but it also provides a cliffhanger for the next story. If you are the impatient type, you might want to wait listening to this one, since there isnt a release date for the next one at the moment im writing this review. Narrator is good.
Cardeno C. is always good for some sweet romance and this short story is no exception - still because its a short story, it isnt very deep and i think he could have made it novellength by adding some more background material. But if you are looking for something short to entertain you for a couple of hours, this migth be a good bet. Narrator is, as always, good and one of my favorite narrators in audible.
I found this book because of the narrator, whom i really like - he has a pleasent deep voice and always puts the right amount of feeling in his reading. The story is quite good, but somehow it really didnt get the emotions between the two MCs to shine. The animosity was believable and felt right but the eventual love between them i couldnt really feel - so instead of being great it kind of became a just above average love story.
Do u know the feeling you got when you went to se "lord of the rings: the fellowship of the ring" and was left with the feeling - that is not a movie -only the intro! Well this is kind of like that - promising story but Nothing gets resolved and it ends very abruptly - it actually was so abrupt that it was several seconds before i could comprehend "i hope u have enjoyed this audiobook" wasnt a part of the story. The narrator kind of says it without pausing first to signal the end. Other than that he is a good narrator exept (i dont know if its him or the authors) a couple of times where he says the name of the wrong MC in a couple of places. If i had to start over i would definitely wait for the rest of the story before i started listening. But i would absolutely buy it, because it has the potential of becoming a very interesting series.
I like the world the author cresated in this book - its a brutal and unforgiving place where both the prisoners and the guards are s... out of luck. But the love between the prisoners and the chief guard is heartwarming and the story about the other prisoners and the way the guards have their own motive for being there are not easily predictable. Well done!
Jack LeFleur is always good, and this is no exception.
I dont know why i dont like Rocky who is one of the main characters in this book, but that makes the book a little hard to like. If you feel differently you might like this story just as much as the first. And i might be getting used to the narrator, because i think he is a little better in this one. Still have a tendency to sound surprised all the time, but he seems to rein it in a bit in this one.
Normally i dont by short stories or books with more than one story since i mostly find that the stories are to short to get a feel for the charaters and - probably like everybody else - i have a tendency to skip books where i dont like the cover - and i really dont like this one. BUT since the stories are by Mary Calmes and Poppy Dennison, i thought i would try it anyway.
The best story is - in my oppinion - PDs, which is the first in the book, but the story by MC is also worth a listen. And i love Jeff Gelder - very good narrator. And its a pleasure to hear one of PDs stories told as it should be, since her other books have an mediocre narrator.
This was a very pleasant surprise. The story is well written and since the storyline also stands out from other M/M books, it is one of the stories I enjoyed the most resently. Brute is a lovable MC and he has been beaten down so many times, that u are really rooting for him. And the narrator is very good
Definitely worth the money or credit.
