In Dream Team, acclaimed sports journalist Jack McCallum delivers the untold story of the greatest team ever assembled: the 1992 U.S. Olympic men's basketball team that captivated the world, kindled the hoop dreams of countless children around the planet, and remade the NBA into a global sensation. As a senior staff writer for Sports Illustrated, McCallum enjoyed a courtside seat for the most exciting basketball spectacle on earth, covering the Dream Team from its inception to the gold medal ceremony in Barcelona.

James T. OBrien says: "Great insight into the great basketball team ever."

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Although there were a few interesting tidbits I did not know, there were not enough to keep me thoroughly entertained. Would have to say "skip it" unless you are huge fan of these players.

In The Outsider, Connors tells the complete, uncensored story of his life and career, setting the record straight about his formidable mother, Gloria; his very public romance with America's sweetheart Chris Evert; his famous opponents, including Björn Borg, John McEnroe, Arthur Ashe, Ivan Lendl, and Rod Laver; his irrepressible co-conspirators Ilie Nastase and Vitas Gerulaitis; and his young nemesis Andre Agassi.

If you grew up or are familiar with the Connors, Borg, McEnroe era you will not be disappointed. Hearing his side of things actually made me a Connors fan whereas I grew up siding with McEnroe and his temper tantrums. Highly recommend.

  • 11-22-63: A Novel

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Kelly says: "I Owe Stephen King An Apology"

Is there anything you would change about this book?

    The length.

    Any additional comments?

Have to say this was my first Stephen King book and I DID enjoy it. He does a great job painting a picture of the past and I felt like I knew the characters. I also enjoyed the narration. My hangup is that it seemed several hours too long.

Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

What disappointed you about Sycamore Row?

This story moved so slow (and I play these at 1 1/2 times speed) that I never finished it. I just never got to the point where I cared about the characters and found myself wishing it would end so I could move on to my next book.

    Any additional comments?

I keep trying Grisham because he wrote my favorite book of all-time in "The Firm" but this one may have ended my loyalty.

In this age of billion dollar athletic marketing campaigns, “feel good” philosophy with no connection to reality, and a Sports Media echo chamber that’s all too eager swallow whatever idiotic notion happens to be in vogue at the moment, it’s tough to find people who aren’t afraid to say what they’re really thinking.

Have to say I'm a fan of Colin's so agreeing with his realistic rather than glossed over views of sports (and life) is not an issue. Guess there were just too many subjects that I did not care about so I fast forwarded thru several chapters. The ones I did listen to were classic Colin and very intuitive. Not sure if I can recommend unless you are unfamiliar with his radio show. In that case I think it can open your eyes to another viewpoint from a sports 'insider'.

  • The Buy Side: A Wall Street Trader's Tale of Spectacular Excess

A remarkable writing debut, filled with indelible moments, The Buy Side shows as no book ever has the rewards – and dizzying temptations – of making a living on the Street.

What made the experience of listening to The Buy Side the most enjoyable?

Being a financial advisor to individuals, this 'exciting' side of the business has always fascinated me. I am so far removed from it but in many ways envy the lifestyle. Listening to this story allows you to live vicariously thru Turney's ups and downs without the ramifications. Kind of like a Wall Street fraternity party that went too far. In the end I have to say I'd recommend The Buy Side for a truly quick read/listen.
