  • Atlas Shrugged

    • ABRIDGED (11 hrs and 33 mins)
    • By Ayn Rand
    • Narrated By Edward Herrmann

    Story

As passionate as it is profound, Atlas Shrugged is one of the most influential novels of our time. In it, Rand dramatizes the main tenets of Objectivism, her philosophy of rational selfishness. She explores the ramifications of her radical thinking in a world that penalizes human intelligence and integrity.

Shawn Levasseur says: "Edward Hermann's masterful performance."
"Wish I could have rated it a 0"
    Overall

This book's one purpose is to promote the author's philosophy of objectivism, which clearly resonates with some people in this day and age, but in my mind is an extreme point of view. Would recommend you understand this philosophy before you buy the book. Wikipedia has a good article.

  • Linchpin: Are You Indispensable?

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 27 mins)

    Story

There used to be two teams in every workplace: management and labor. Now there’s a third team, the linchpins. These people invent, lead (regardless of title), connect others, make things happen, and create order out of chaos. They figure out what to do when there’s no rule book. They delight and challenge their customers and peers. They love their work, pour their best selves into it, and turn each day into a kind of art.

Anthony K says: "Like the Muhammad Ali of Seth Godin Books"
    "A Collection of Greeting Cards"
    Overall

This book is like a series of greeting cards, all with the same message - "Don't be a mediocre rule follower, be an artist, be extraordinary." There's very little evidence to support the idea that one can simply decide to be extraordinary and pull it off. No biographical stories. Nothing. Just greeting card platitudes.

  • Conversations with Myself

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 53 mins)

    • Narrated By John Kani

A singular international publishing event, Conversations with Myself draws on Mandela’s personal archive of never-before-seen materials to offer unique access to the private world of an incomparable world leader.

Roy says: "Warm Thoughts, Insight and Wisdom"
    "Not this book"
    Overall

I agree with the other reviewer. I'm only about an hour into this book and think I'm done. The reader's accent is very thick. I have to turn the audio up pretty loud and listen closely to get understand what he's saying. The book appears to be a hodgepodge of Mandela's writings with no discernable theme or structure. A real disappointment.
