Daisy Minor is bored. Worse than that, she's boring. A plain, small-town librarian, she's got a wardrobe as sexy as a dictionary and hasn't been on a date in years. She's never even had a lukewarm love affair, let alone a hot one. So when she wakes up on her 34th birthday, she begins transforming herself into a manhunting party girl. But one night she sees something she shouldn't - and suddenly she becomes the target of a killer.

I really did enjoy this book. It was funny, entertaining and amusing. Good story too. A great escape and cute characters. For $10 an easy listen you can afford to try. The narrarator always makes it grand.

Okay, don't hate me, but I returned to Audible, The Gamble. Didn't like the 1st hour, and could never get into it, then I listened to the sample of Breathe. I like the quiet shy maidenly librarian and the cop scenario. I couldn't get pass all the great reviews this author was getting so after a couple of months I decided I wanted to get Breathe...Downloaded and listened and listened and when I was done, I listened again! Loved this book. Made me laugh, and cry. Very well written. Tied up with a bow, no rhetoric. Now, I think I'll get Lexie's book, Lady Luck, then Sweet Dreams.

A talented painter in her early thirties, Samille Sweeney has achieved enviable success. Her work sells at an exclusive New York City gallery and her popularity is at an all-time high when she begins to experience lush, vivid dreams drenched in vibrant hues that influence her artwork. When Sweeney paints a graphic murder scene that mirrors a recent real-life murder, she is thrust into suspicious light.

I listen to some audios more than once. I have a few hundred or more in my library here on Audible, but I rarely write reviews. I've listened to this book maybe 4 times. The first time was so-so. A couple of years later, I listened again, and geez, it was good, I really liked the mystery and suspense and of course, the romance...which is why Linda Howard is in my top 10 authors.

My point is this. It all depends on what mood you are in at the time of your listen. If you are grumpy or sullen...you won't like anything, and knowing it isn't fair to give a low score, you give it a 2 or 3, I always give at least a 3 if it's a favorite author and I'm in a "mood" and the narrator isn't yucky. And if it is a favorite author, I re-listen. I've fallen in love with books, I thought I didn't like...all because of the mood I was in at the time.

So, if you might have been unfair in a rating because of your mood, re-listen when you are in a better one. Some of the ratings are really unkind and mean and nit picky. Anyone can be a critic...but how many books have you published?

The storyline was interesting. The characters are likable, but, after years of listening to Joyce's soft, smooth, gentle voice I was surprised how much I missed it. I like Barbara Rosenblat but not in this genre, she sounds great reading Nevada Barr or Elizabeth Peters. I found her voice harsh reading for JAK. Guess that is just what I've become used to after all these years.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Oh my, Excellent book, loved the dialog, narrator was superb. I wanted to listen till it was done, I don't remember feeling that way about a book for a long time. This book was out of my norm, but I will be hunting up more from this author and the narrator. Heart pounds with anxious fear. Can't wait to start it over. Get it. Enjoy it.

LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well, not since a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner. Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s. I liked the story, but it took awhile. There was a lot of repeating of "trust me". Maybe I have trust issues? I just don't like hearing it over and over. I did at several points think about giving up on the book, but I hung in there. The sex scenes were the best I've heard from Jayne, and that was a wow?! The story picked up in part 2 and the "Who Dunnit" was very well done.

The narrator was a big problem though. I did like her voice, but it didn't change much. I couldn't tell who was talking, male or female sounded the same...too bad. You had to really pay attention to figure out who was talking. I had just listened to Mercy by Julie Garwood narrated by Christina Traister, she did an excellent job.

No one, not even her family, knows that she cannot hear. Content with her life of seclusion, Eveline has taught herself to read lips and allows the outside world to view her as daft. But when an arranged marriage into a rival clan makes Graeme Montgomery her husband, Eveline accepts her duty -unprepared for the delights to come.

Story was good and enthralling! Tried to listen to it in one sitting but couldn't. I wanted to inhale it absorb it! It was my first exposure to Maya Banks and I am now a fan of Scottish tales, never having listened to or read one before. I am also now adding Kirsten Potter as one of my favorite narrators. I have 2 credits to spend...guess what I'm going to get?

Would you listen to The Witness again? Why?

BUY THIS BOOK! It is wonderful. I gave it 5 stars after listening for 2 hours. Now I'm down to the last 1/2 hour. I have cleaned, gardened, knitted, cooked, scanned pictures to my computer, everything I could think of just to keep listening. The last time I was this wrapped up with a Nora Roberts book was with Black Rose, and as good as that was, this is better. Wow!Thank you! This book was so very well done!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

    Yes, I just kept churning.

What does Julia Whelan bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

Another review mentioned the similarities with the tv show Bones...Julia brought that to it with innocence.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The obvious of course, but what smacked me! was when she explained how she was going to bring them down. I loved that part! It really makes you think...the bad guys would have no way to retaliate.

    Any additional comments?

It is one of my best spent credits!
