  • Starswarm

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs)
    • By Jerry Pournelle
    • Narrated By Lloyd James

Kip has a secret. A young boy who lives with his uncle at the Starswarm Station research outpost on planet Paradise, he has heard a voice in his head for as long as he can remember. The voice guides him in all his decisions, helping him through situations with useful information and helpful insight.

    "Not bad"

Not a bad effort for the team that put together this audiobook. Because the book itself is very derivitive of Robert Heinlien's "Citizen of the Galaxy" and a book by Orson Scott Card I would normaly rate it very low. However, the production values and performance of the Narrator save this otherwise mediocre story.

  • The Elfstones of Shannara: Original Shannara Trilogy, Book 2

    • ABRIDGED (3 hrs)
    • By Terry Brooks
    • Narrated By Theodore Bikel

The ancient tree created by long-lost Elven magic, is dying. When Wil Ohmsford is summoned to guard the Amberle on a perilous quest to gather a new seed for a new tree, he is faced with the Reaper, the most fearsome of all Demons. And Wil is without power to control them..."

    "Waste of Time"

Do not get this abridged audio, it is a waste of your time. Get the unabridged version that is now finally available. So much is left out, unexplained or just plain chopped up.

  • Jurassic Park

    • ABRIDGED (3 hrs)
    • By Michael Crichton
    • Narrated By John Heard

From the ever-inventive, ingenious mind of Michael Crichton comes the terrifying tale of a "theme" park that even Disney never dreamed of! A shroud of secrecy covers a privately-owned island off the coast of the Dominican Republic where an American bioengineering firm is quietly building a resort theme park. Even the expert consultants on the project don't know exactly what it is. And local doctors are mystified when an injured park worker arrives at the hospital with gashes on his body as if an animal of monstrous proportions has mauled him.

    M. Smalley says: "Just plain wrong!"
    "Very Poor"

Very poor version of a really good book. Hard to believe the publishers of this abridgement thought this was a good version of the book. Poorly paced, poorly abridged, and poorly voiced. Don't waste your time.

  • Cell: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 36 mins)
    • By Stephen King
    • Narrated By Campbell Scott

The cause of the devastation is a phenomenon that will come to be known as The Pulse, and the delivery method is a cell phone. Everyone's cell phone. Clay and the few desperate survivors who join him suddenly find themselves in the pitch-black night of civilization's darkest age, surrounded by chaos, carnage, and a human horde that has been reduced to its basest nature...and then begins to evolve.

    "Not King's best work"

This is certainly not King's best work. Not bad, but not up to most of his previous work. It is not just that it is derivitive of The Stand, it just isn't that good. Can't really put my finger on why. I hope that audible gets the rights to some more of King's work.

  • Mystic Quest: Book II of the Bronze Canticles Trilogy

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 50 mins)
    • By Tracy Hickman, Laura Hickman
    • Narrated By Lloyd James
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Now, after Mystic Warrior, comes Mystic Quest, Book Two of the Bronze Canticles, a trilogy of magic and heroism, mystery and splendor. Twenty-three years have passed since Galen Arvad first exposed the deep magic. Now, that magic brings tragedy and darkness to the lives of all who wield it in the world.

joshua brown says: "Good Followup to the First"
    "Why 23 years later?"

No idea why the authors decided to put this book 23 years after the 1st one as every time a author does this it dilutes the story and shows that the authors had no idea how to continue afte the 1st one. Also, of the 3 storylines going I never cared about the main story with the humans (the book spends the most time with them), this probably has to do with it being the next generation, overall poor plotting and really didn't like either of the brothers(or the hokey set-up for why they get together).

  • Don't Know Much About Mythology

    • UNABRIDGED (20 hrs and 24 mins)
    • By Kenneth C. Davis
    • Narrated By John Lee, Lorna Raver

Ever familiar and instructive, Davis shows why the ancient tales of gods and heroes, from Mount Olympus to Machu Picchu, from ancient Rome to the icy land of the Norse, continue to speak to us today, in our movies, art, language, and music. For mythology novices and buffs alike, and for anyone who loves a good story, Don't Know Much About Mythology is a lively and insightful look into the greatest stories ever told.

    Kermit says: "History isn't boring"
"Saddened at the latest in series"

I had high hopes going into ...Mythology. I have listened to the other books in the series more than once and loved them all. Mythology however has nothing going for it. The PC and preaching are just way too much. Personal pet peeve is the use of BCE, if you don't like AD & BC then at least do more than change it to CE & BCE, invent some other starting point.
Also, really didn't like the narrator. No emotion, no sense he cared about the work. Having the author read may have made this book worth listening to.

Hyrum Knudsen says: "Too Cut up"
    "Too Cut up"

Okay audiobook. The major problem is that it is chopped all to bits and thus misses much of scope of the book. Really wish you had unabridged versions.
