In the midst of the hop-picking season in the village of Heronsdene, Kent, Maisie Dobbs, Psychologist and Investigator, undertakes an assignment from James Compton, son of her long-time supporter, Lady Rowan Compton, to look into aspects of a land purchase on his behalf. Quickly drawn into the local community, Maisie soon becomes involved in an effort to discover the source of petty crime in the area as well as a spate of fires that has blighted Heronsdene for years.

The more I listen to this collection, the better I like them. Ms. Cassidy does a good job of portraying a gentleness in Maisie, reflective of the time. Wrapping the history of post WW1 around the plot of deception and death allows the listener to be carried along with Maisie, as if a passenger in her MG or a sipper of the frequent tea that is offered. This is a sensitive Maisie, her war experiences remain close at hand, her love, lost to the battles, her kind father and this story with gypsies paint a picture of struggles at every level of British society ... plus a gentle dog. Just my cup of tea!

From #1 New York Times-best-selling author Nora Roberts comes a novel of a woman who needs nothing, a man who sees everything, and the web of deceit, greed, and danger that brings them together - and that could tear them apart… As a professional house-sitter and freelance writer, nothing ties Lila Emerson down - not her work, not a home, and definitely not a relationship. She spends her life moving from one job to the next, sometimes crashing at a friend 's Manhattan apartment. And though she can appreciate her clients ' extraordinary homes, their expensive collections, and their adorable pets, Lila has never longed for possessions of her own. Everything she has, including her heart, is portable.

I'll make this short and sweet. I liked this suspenseful and multilayered story. The narrator was excellent, showing spunk and emotion that really made the characters come to life. Glad I used a credit and was not ready for it to end.

Overview of this book is this - a homicide worked by relationship phobic detectives who enjoyed a sex club relationship, tossed with Italian parents who are attempting to settle into a Hawaiian retirement.

The narrator was good, she handled accents very well and was appropriately enthusiastic as she read, but I expected more after reading the reviews - I trust reviews.

If you are thinking of listening to this book, you'll find it entertaining, it was just not enough for me.

Andy Carpenter isn't sure what to think when he gets a mysterious phone call from a good friend, policeman Pete Stanton, asking him to drop everything, drive to an unfamiliar address, and bring his girlfriend, Laurie Collins. He certainly isn't expecting to show up at a crime scene. But that's exactly where he arrives - at the house where Pete has just discovered the body of ex-convict Danny Balfour. Upstairs are Danny's now orphaned four-year-old son and basset hound. And that, Andy discovers, is why he and Laurie were called to the scene - Pete wants them to take care of the boy and the dog so they won't get thrown into the "system". This is already asking a lot, but soon Pete needs another big favor from Andy. Pete himself has come under suspicion for Danny's murder, and he needs defense attorney Andy to represent him - and to find out what really happened in Danny's house that day!

Joe says: "The best Andy Carpenter yet!"

    Story

I'm looking at my dogs, a golden retriever and a basset hound, knowing that because of them, I was suckered into buying this book. Really, look at that cover photo!
The story is typical for Rosenfelt and his Andy character. Andy is reluctantly dragged into solving a crime/representing a victim in court and trying to resolve his personal life which includes his soft spot for dogs and his lady friend.
I thought the story got a little boggy in the sorting out of the crime, but the ending of the book is worth the slowness in the middle.

Can a stack of long-hidden love letters from a WWII war hero inspire a heartbroken woman to love again?Reeling from a bitter divorce, Adrienne Carter abandons Chicago and retreats to the sun, sand, and beauty of Southern Florida, throwing herself into the restoration of a dilapidated old Victorian beach house. Early into the renovations, she discovers a tin box hidden away in the attic that reveals the emotional letters from a WWII paratrooper to a young woman who lived in the house more than a half-century earlier.

One Lavender Ribbon is an easy book to listen to. The narrator is pleasant and handles different voices well. The story is a romantic fiction, involving several characters whose lives and lies have woven them together in a typical romantic fiction style. I liked the story, the twists of storyline and the resolution.

Everyone needs to be rescued sometimes. Everyone but Hannah Montgomery, that is. She just needs a vacation. Three weeks in New Zealand to sort out her life, figure out what she wants, seems just right. Oh, and to relax. She should definitely put that on the agenda. She certainly isn't looking for a fling with a professional rugby player, no matter how attractive he is. Hannah doesn't do casual. But maybe just this once.…

I bought this because we have just returned from a month in New Zealand and I am geeked out on anything Kiwi! This was long on romantic fiction and short on New Zealand. Realistically, I don't know how much location material you can throw into a book without having it read like a travel brochure.
Narration was good, accents accurate. I felt the story was soft and Book 1 is enough for me.

I can't remember why I bought this book, but I found it in my library and thought it would be a "soft" story to listen to between my usual slasher/spy/mystery listening habit.
As another reviewer said, I was reeled in quickly to the story of a person whose memories have been erased and how the jig-saw puzzle reconstruction of a personal history might be accomplished This is not an unusual theme, but it was told and narrated in a compelling manner, gentle yet piercing, witty and sensitive.
The narrator was excellent - and a very important part of my enjoyment of a book. In fact, that's the luxury in audiobooks - listening to the storyteller. I will definitely get another book from Liane Moriarty.

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life — a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school, and a challenging volunteer job performing canine search and rescue. Not to mention her three intensely loyal Labs. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare.

I listened to this book on a very long flight and it was ok. The story was slow mid-way, but I kept with it because I wanted to get to the suspenseful resolution. I agree with the complaints people have had about the abundance of dog training information - but that's her style, research of topics and then putting that research into writing. It did fit within the story, even if some readers were annoyed by it.
The narrator was good, a personality emerged that was distinctive.
This book was entertaining, if not the great American novel, it was ok.
