The time is World War II. The place is a brutal prison camp deep in Japanese-occupied territory. Here, within the seething mass of humanity, one man, an American corporal, seeks dominance over both captives and captors alike. His weapons are human courage, unblinking understanding of human weaknesses, and total willingness to exploit every opportunity to enlarge his power and corrupt or destroy anyone who stands in his path.

The very clever, very dangerous propaganda minister - a close confidant of Hitler, an ambitious schemer and flagrant libertine. And Bernie Gunther, former Berlin homicide bull, now forced to do favors for Joseph Goebbels at the propaganda minister's command.

November, 1943. Weary of his deskbound status in the Royal Navy, intelligence officer Ian Fleming spends his spare time spinning stories in his head that are much more exciting than his own life - until the critical Tehran Conference, when Winston Churchill, Franklin Roosevelt, and Josef Stalin meet to finalize the D-Day invasion.

Was worried when I realized it wasn't, only to be pleasantly surprised with Jussi's latest effort. In fact I think it's really, really good, love historical fiction particlularly of the WW2 genre, though I think it would be enjoyed by most non ww2 fans. Highly recommend, another great Scandinavian author for my bookshelf....running out of room though.

Another good addition to the Victor series, was pleasantly surprised with this series from an author and a narrator I had never heard before. Good storyline, suspenseful, at times tense and not too far fetched in terms of plot and characters imo.... Highly recommend to those that like this genre and looking for a new series to start or jump into.
