This is the worst piece of writing that Stephen King have ever created. He should have stopped with volume VI.
It lacks the logical consistancy that all the other the universes of King's mind create. He used the poorest techniques of the least competent of ancient Greek playwrights: the gods in the machine. If you get your hero in an impossible situation, just wave your hand and a few magical characters can solve everything. I really liked the Dark Tower series until I read this one.
I have little doubt that there are many Stephen King fans who could right a much better closing novel for the series.
This is an amazing view of the 19th Century London poor and criminal class, and their migration to Van Deimon's Land. It is also a facinating introduction to Jewish life in London at that time.
