When a mysterious note referencing a top-secret US operation is tossed over the wall of the embassy in Nicaragua, Nathan McBride and his old pal Harv are called out of retirement by CIA Director Rebecca Cantrell and sent to Central America. Cantrell wants the situation resolved quickly and knows that Nathan is the man to do it; after all, he has a history with the place. The jungle he and Harv are about to land in is the same one that Nathan barely escaped with his life decades before, an ordeal that left him physically and psychologically scarred.

To me there is a great deal of similarities between Andrew Peterson and Lee Childs writing style. Each of their main characters are very similar. I found I like Peterson and his McBride character better. If you have not listened to Peterson and you like writers like Childs, Silva, and Coonts I think you will like Peterson. Give the McBride series a try I don't think you will be disappointed.

From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan ("the devil") and placed a bounty on his head.

I have the utmost respect for Mr. Kyle. His service to our country was outstanding and thank god for men like him. I admire men who don't know what half-ass means. As I listened to this book i felt that old felling of remorse. I didn't serve and have felt guilty ever since. The 60's were just different.
I remember the day Chris was killed. It was very near where I live and it was a very big local news item. This isn't the greatest piece of literary work and not the best written but it is profound. It should be on everyone's reading list.
This book belongs with R. V. Bergen and Eugene Sledge's work. Their stories about their part in WWII are mirrored by Kyle's story 60 years later. Thanks to all the men like Mr. Kyle

Butch Karp and Marlene Ciampi discover themselves working on two sides of the same case when a set of double homicides rocks downtown Manhattan. A bloody warning scrawled on the wall above a murdered elderly couple sends the Jewish community reeling into a tension-filled confrontation with the city's Arab population. In neighboring Brooklyn, a 16-year-old Arab runaway seeks refuge in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen, where she becomes caught up in the ugly world of prostitution and drugs.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Recommend? Yes of course. I have found that writers who write series such as the Karp series take a few books to really develop the characters and theme. The first several books Tanenbaum wrote in this series felt to me like he was searching for his characters identity. I think he has found them.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Marlene of course. She is such a wild character. Lucy is a close second.

What aspect of James Daniels’s performance would you have changed?

Pat first I thought what in the world. He seemed to speak to fast and his inflections seemed off but the longer I listened I kind of liked his narration.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

After the girl was kidnaped and Lucy told her dad what happened. Karp came alive.

    Any additional comments?

I hope the next books in this series become available very soon.

Back as head of the district attorney's homicide bureau, Butch Karp comes up against one of his most bizarre cases yet. A series of racially motivated murders in Harlem prove to be the work of a wealthys uburbanite out to relive a twisted episode from his childhood. The killer's showboating defense attorney will stop at nothing to derail Karp's prosecution - even if it means igniting a race war.

Would you listen to Irresistible Impulse again? Why?

I think I would. This book was the most interesting to me of this series.

What other book might you compare Irresistible Impulse to and why?

That's a tuff question. This book added a layer that I didn't feel in the other books of this series. I felt that Marlene was the major focus in this book. Marlene is a much more complex figure than Karp. Tanenbaum did well exploring with her character.

What about Traber Burns’s performance did you like?

    He is ok.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes it was. I almost did do that very thing but a Christmas party got in the way.

    Any additional comments?

Tanenbaum did a nice job with this book.

A Turkish diplomat in New York City is gunned down in broad daylight, and all signs point to an ancient blood feud. The suspected gunman is Armenian. His alleged motive is to avenge the slaughter of Armenians by Turks generations before. But prosecutor Butch Karp has never accepted the easy answer, and he soon realizes the facts of this murder are more complicated than they seem. To close the case, Karp and his investigator wife, Marlene, must infiltrate a cross-section of New York society, while fending off crooks and madmen from every corner of the Big Apple and the world beyond.

Would you listen to Justice Denied again? Why?

Probably not. The Karp series is like eating a cheeseburger. Great when your hunger but I don't want to eat the same burger twice.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Justice Denied?

Anything with Marlene as the focus. She sounds like way more of a woman than Karp is a guy.

Have you listened to any of Traber Burns’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Traber is fine. No complaints. He isn't my favorite narrator but he is OK.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Sure I laughed. Marlene is a trip.

    Any additional comments?

I don't find Tanenbaum as good of a writer as Sandford or Flynn but he is good enough. This is book #6 in the series and Tanenbaum has finally slowed down telling the reader Karp is jewish and that Marlene is a catholic. Yep he does mention it some but why? To me it plays no part in the story. I could care less what religion the characters are.

Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Roger "Butch" Karp has been around New York long enough to realize that the judicial system can be dirty and cynical. But he still believes in justice. So when a vicious sociopath tries to dodge a brutal murder charge by convincing the court he is incompetent to stand trial, Karp teams up with firecracker Assistant DA Marlene Ciampi to unleash the full force of their relentless energy, hardboiled wit, and passion for the truth to put the killer away for good. They will accept no lesser plea.

If you could sum up No Lesser Plea in three words, what would they be?

    A nice introduction.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I wouldn't say on the edge but it kept my attention.

What three words best describe Traber Burns’s voice?

    Interesting at best.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    No escape.

    Any additional comments?

I had listened to Tanenbaum before and decided to start the series in order. No Lesser Plea is nice first book. It sets the characters well. I mostly likely will listen to a few more books then decide if I will continue with the series. Tanenbaum and Burns may grow on me but at this time they aren't my favorite.

In Israel, a man clutching a backpack searches desperately for a boat. In Minnesota, Virgil Flowers gets a message from Lucas Davenport: You're about to get a visitor. It's an Israeli cop, and she's tailing a man who's smuggled out an extraordinary relic - a copper scroll revealing startling details about the man known as King Solomon. Wait a minute, laughs Virgil. Is this one of those Da Vinci Code deals? The secret scroll, the blockbuster revelation, the teams of murderous bad guys? Should I be boning up on my Bible verses? He looks at the cop. She's not laughing.

Virgil's always been known for having a somewhat active, er, social life, but he's probably not going to be getting too many opportunities for that during his new case. While competing in a fishing tournament in a remote area of northern Minnesota, he gets a call from Lucas Davenport to investigate a murder at a nearby resort.

This is a keeper. Virgil is so human. Sandford's Virgil Flower is a great down to earth kind of a guy. Sandford leaves enough out to keep you guessing but not so much that you lose interest. I suspected the ending but it was funny how Sandford pulled it off. Poor Virgil.

Flowers is only in his late 30's, but he's been around the block a few times, and he doesn't think much can surprise him anymore. He's wrong. It's a hot, humid summer night in Minnesota, and Flowers is in bed with one of his ex-wives (the second one , if you're keeping count ) when the phone rings. It's Lucas Davenport. There's a body in Stillwater, two shots to the head, found near a veterans' memorial. And the victim has a lemon in his mouth.

The night after the fourth of July, Layton Carlson, Jr., of Red Wing, Minnesota, finally got lucky. And unlucky.

He’d picked the perfect spot to lose his virginity to his girlfriend, an abandoned farmyard in the middle of cornfields: nice, private, and quiet. The only problem was...something smelled bad - like, really bad. He mentioned it to a county deputy he knew, and when the cop took a look, he found a body stuffed down a cistern. And then another, and another. By the time Lucas Davenport was called in, the police were up to 15 bodies and counting.

I listen to audio books at an insane rate. If a reader of many books is a book worm I must be a "tape worm". There a lot of great authors and narrators. Sometimes they actually come together on the same series. Boy oh boy did they ever in Sandford's the Prey series. This is the last title that audible has in their listing as of 10/14. I enjoyed the complete series and the Field of Prey was no exception. If you are a fan of Sandford's you will love this one. Enjoy.
