It's a gorgeous autumn day in Georgetown. The Democratic candidates for president and vice-president of the United States are dutifully glad-handing voters and the media outside a grand estate where a national-security conference has just been held, bringing together the world's greatest minds to discuss the issues that are threatening the country. It's American politicking at its best. That's when all hell breaks loose.

This is crazy. I almost wish my brother hadn't put me onto Vince Flynn. I am going through this complete series as fast as I can. I catch my self listening to this series when I should be doing other things. I am buying this series two and three books at a time. My one book a month subscription isn't working very well on this series. I just can't wait till next month for another credit. I am buy three extra credits a month so I can get this series completed. I simply love this series. Mitch Rapp has become my favorite "good guy". Much more down to earth and realistic than Jack Reacher or Cotton Malone. I wish I had the money to buy the movie rights for this complete series. If ever there was a series that would be a fantastic movie series this is it. Every bit as good or better than the Jason Bourne.

When a mysterious note referencing a top-secret US operation is tossed over the wall of the embassy in Nicaragua, Nathan McBride and his old pal Harv are called out of retirement by CIA Director Rebecca Cantrell and sent to Central America. Cantrell wants the situation resolved quickly and knows that Nathan is the man to do it; after all, he has a history with the place. The jungle he and Harv are about to land in is the same one that Nathan barely escaped with his life decades before, an ordeal that left him physically and psychologically scarred.

To me there is a great deal of similarities between Andrew Peterson and Lee Childs writing style. Each of their main characters are very similar. I found I like Peterson and his McBride character better. If you have not listened to Peterson and you like writers like Childs, Silva, and Coonts I think you will like Peterson. Give the McBride series a try I don't think you will be disappointed.

How does Flynn do it? The Mitch Rapp series just keeps getting better. More mature, more cynical, more human all of Flynn's characters from Mitch Rapp to Kennedy and right on down the line. If I had a problem and I don't is the way Flynn portrays the wives of his main characters. Yes I can believe it is very hard on the wives of men who work in the clandestine world not knowing where or just what their husbands are doing. How much danger they are in or not in. But that is true of any relationship between couples, Policemen, firemen, miners, truck drives, many men have dangerous jobs that are important. No they don't go around having gun battles on a daily basis but their jobs are dangerous. Fantastic series do yourself a favor and read the complete series starting with the 1st book. Flynn may not be one of the all time writer of classic literature but he sure fits my taste. I would much rather have a great Double Cheeseburger with fries and a chocolate shake than a steak dinner. Flynn's Rapp series is the great American Double Cheeseburger to me. I want MORE not just a second helping I want a100 helpings of Mitch Rapp and company.

The action begins six days after a series of explosions devastated Washington, D.C., targeting the National Counterterrorism Center and killing 185 people, including public officials and CIA employees. It was a bizarre act of extreme violence that called for extreme measures on the part of elite counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp and his trusted team member, Mike Nash.

This is insane. I feel like I am addicted to this series. I am completely sleep deprived because of Vince Flynn. My wife is looking for a series to read. I told her the Mitch Rapp character is better than Jason Bourne. She said well I will read one and see. Boy is she in for a surprise. She doesn't believe me. Once she starts this series I won't see her again till this fall.

CIA counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp falls prey to government forces with an agenda of their own after Dr. Irene Kennedy is named the successor to dying CIA Director Thomas Stansfield—a choice that enrages many inside the world’s most powerful intelligence agency. Her detractors will resort to extreme measures to prevent her from taking the reins—which makes Rapp an expendable asset. But Mitch Rapp is no one’s pawn, and he will stop at nothing to find out who has set him up.

I read some of the other reviews before I bought this book. I have listened to several of the Mitch Rapp series and enjoyed everyone of them. Some of the complaints that other reviewers had were in regards to the narrator. I saw nothing wrong with Nick Sullivan's narration as a matter of fact I think he is one of the better readers that I have heard.
I grew up in the era of weekly serials and I loved them. I personally like the way Mr. Flynn builds for a series. The Third Option is fine entertainment and worth the price. Enjoy, I certainly did.

I had read some of the other reviews and was a little worried when I bought this book. I was not disappointed at all. I found it as good any of Follett's work. The Eye of the needle was a very good book and I found Silva did as well if not better with The Unlikely Spy.

I will listen to this book a second time. The Unlikely Spy is one of Silva's best works.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Very much so. I like to listen to a series of books in the order they were written. My brother suggested I listen to Johnson's Longmire series and I am not disappointed at all. I love the way Johnson build on previous stories.

What other book might you compare Junkyard Dogs to and why?

I have to compare Junkyard dogs to all the other books in this series. You can feel and see Johnson grow as a writer or at least he is becoming more comfortable with Longmire and clan that his stories come together a little faster.

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

I listened to Guidall's conversation with Johnson after one of the previous books. They discussed Guidall's voice and how it fits Johnson's idea of what Longmire should sound like. Guidall isn't my favorite reader but I couldn't imagine anyone else reading this series. He is very captivating.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    The title is good enough.

    Any additional comments?

If you haven't listen/read to the previous books in this series do so. I am about the same age that Longmire is in this series and although I am not a widower I sympathize with Longmire. I understand why he is reluctant to enter into a full blown relationship with Vic. It is as if Johnson is looking into my head or at least asking me how would I deal with whatever Longmire is dealing with in his personal life. I didn't know there was a Longmire series on A&E. I don't remember who played Longmire but I don't see Lou Diamond Philips as Henry. Not old enough nor big enough for Henry. If they casted someone for Longmire that isn't old enough to be a Vietnam vet and isn't as big as a house I would be very disappointed. Just like I was when they casted Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher.

Mexican drug cartels are shooting up the streets of Laredo and El Paso. Somali pirates are holding three U.S. tankers for ransom. The President of the United States is fed up and, as Commander in Chief, has what he thinks is a pretty bright idea — to get hold of Colonel Charley Castillo and his merry band and get them on the case. Unfortunately, that will be difficult. Everybody knows that the President hates Castillo’s guts, and has just had him forcibly retired from the military, and now Castillo’s men are scattered far and wide, many of them in hiding.

This book really wasn't up to par with the first 7 books. To me the story line was empty it just didn't go anywhere. I suspect all this book did was remind everyone that Charlie was still alive and kicking. My wife dislike W.E.B.'s book almost as much as she dislikes Clancy's works. She thinks Clancy is wordy and redundant. To her in this kind of book someone ask the time and then W.E.B. not only tells them how to build the watch before he tells the time he also tells you where to dig the ore to manufacture the metal to make the watch. Don't waste your money on this book. read or listen to the previous book and then wait till number 9 comes out. Maybe he will tell us why he spent so much time with the Russian Priest. I just didn't get it.
