Acknowledged by Sherlock Holmes himself as the smarter brother, and gifted with even greater powers of observation than the famous consulting detective, Mycroft Holmes appears in only four stories in the Canon and remains an enigmatic figure wrapped in the mysteries of international politics and conspiracies. Now, in Against the Brotherhood, we learn of Mycroft's secrets throught the eyes of his new secretary, Patterson Guthrie.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Highly improbable and painfully boring! I could not get through to the end and gave up more than half way into the book. Mycroft Holmes as a spiritualist?! Human sacrifice?! Oh, and Masons - make a badly put together literary soup.
    Enough said.

What was most disappointing about Quinn Fawcett’s story?

    Predictable actions and trite prose.

What about Alan Stanford’s performance did you like?

Good reader, but very weak story.

Do you think Against the Brotherhood needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    No!

Rosamund is an Earth Master in the Schwarzwald, the ancient Black Forest of Germany. Since the age of 10, she has lived with her teacher, the Hunt Master and Earth Magician of the Schwarzwald Foresters, a man she calls "Papa". Her adoptive Papa rescued her after her original Earth Master teacher, an old woman who lived alone in a small cottage in the forest, was brutally murdered by werewolves. Rosa herself barely escaped, and this terrifying incident molded the course of her future.

What did you love best about Blood Red?

I love this series and was not disappointed by the new book in the series! A good story line, nicely outlined characters and a lot of interesting details make this book come alive.
A very good narration adds to the enjoyment. Once I started this book it was almost impossible to put it away.
I will definitely listen to it again and again!

Life is not easy for the poor relations of England’s upper crust, but fate and clever schemes bring them together. Lady Fortescue and Colonel Sandhurst hatch a plan: What if they were to transform her decrepit Bond Street home into a posh hotel, offering their guests the pleasure of being waited upon by nobility? With the help of other down-and-out aristocrats, they do just that, and London’s newest hotel, The Poor Relation, is born. The establishment is an immediate hit with London’s most illustrious citizens, save the Duke of Rowcester....

Where does Lady Fortescue Steps Out rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was a very pleasant surprise. A lovely new turn for M.C Beaton. It has become one of my new favorites and I will definitely listen to it again.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lady Fortescue Steps Out?

This is a comedy of manners, reminiscent of Oscar Wilde. Lots of humor through tears, lots of nice historical details.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The first meeting of Lady Fortescue and Colonel.

    Any additional comments?

It is light, enjoyable reading at its best.
