I'm not a big fan of Glenn Beck. If I had known of his politics before buying it, I probably wouldn't have. That would have been my loss. It's a very good book and will put you in a Christmas mood by the end.
This is a very good golf book. Nicklaus may be the greatest of all time, but there have not been that many interesting books featuring him. Hogan, Palmer and Jones have had theirs. Even Tiger recently. So it's nice to have a good one featuring the Bear at a time when he was at the top of his game. It has also been rare to have a golf book featuring a young Johnny Miller, so that was an added bonus. The 1975 Masters is considered one of the best of all time. So it made for a great backdrop to explore some of the best golfers of the 1970's.
The reader, however, will be a distraction for any golfer. He mispronounces many golf terms. He also shows a total lack of golf knowledge on others. For example, he reads -3 as negative 3 instead of 3 under as any golfer would. Despite those distractions I enjoyed the book.
I first read this book 15 years ago and wanted to revisit it now that it's on audio. I'm glad I did. It actually foreshadows much of what eventually happened to Knight. The book not only gives you insight into why Knight was such a great coach, but also why he was destined to self destruct. This is must for any college basketball fan.
Pat Conroy is simply put one of the best authors alive today. It's a shame that he doesn't put out more books. I had seen the movie before listening to this. I was not a big fan of the movie. I am a big fan of the book. Conroy creates characters who are so real you feel like you know them. Muller completes the job of bringing them to life. A great book by one of my favorite authors.
I was really into the OJ trial and even I had a hard time getting through this one. Not a lot that was new. This is only for the hard core "fans" of the trial.
This was a little more predictable than most Grisham books. However, I do love listening to the way Grisham writes and Boutsikaris is a top notch reader. It did hold my interest until the very end.
I like listening to Christmas stuff at Christmas. In that regard, it satisfied a need last December. The best ones I listen to again another Christmas. This one won't make that list.
I'm a golf nut. So to say this is my favorite golf audio is saying a lot. I love the history of golf, the details from a time gone by and I enjoy hearing about Jones. Jones was more dominant in his era than Tiger was in his prime. On top of that Jones was a legendary golfer in his spare time. He was a lawyer by trade. It's an amazing story that is well told.
This is a very good book for any golf fan. A great book for anyone interested in golf history. And a total must have for any Hogan fan.
I've listened to this several years at Christmas. It is just so funny, realistic and nostalgic all at the same time. I've gotten way more than my credit's worth on this one!
We listened to this on the way back from Washington, DC. It was great to get details on the places we had just seen. Plus it was fascinating to learn details about the assignation that I didn't learn in school!
