Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I typically listen to books while driving in my car. I found myself not only listening to it in the car, but at home and at work when I could squeeze a few minutes in here and there.

I enjoyed this story so much that I would love to have a sequel. Story line and characters were engaging and interesting. Found myself wanting more when it was finished.

Blessed with great beauty and wealth, Emily Armstrong had the highest privileges that youth can bestow. But all that is behind her now. Pregnant and abandoned by the man she loved, she struggles to survive in the slums of Philadelphia after the Civil War. Vowing never to be fooled by love again, she builds a new life as the mistress of a boardinghouse, known for her morals, virtue, and strictly guarded heart. But when a traveler from out West visits for the Centennial Exhibition and checks into Emily's lodging, something stirs within her. Rugged yet ever the gentleman, this cowboy is nothing like the man who left her pregnant long ago.

What did you like best about this story?

How women have learned to overcome diversity and challenges in a time where it wasn't acceptable for women in general to be strong, self-sufficient and powerful. Its not always about the most beautiful or wealthy, but rather the one who takes a few to scrutinize and evaluate any given situation to the best of her ability.

I really enjoyed this story. I found it easy to relate to the characters and emjoying each one for their different attributes.

Travis Parker has everything a man could want: a good job, loyal friends, even a waterfront home in small-town North Carolina. In full pursuit of the good life, including boating, swimming, and regular barbecues with his good-natured buddies, he holds the vague conviction that a serious relationship with a woman would only cramp his style. That is, until Gabby Holland moves in next door.

Being a fan of many of his movies, as I love a good chick flick... I decided that I would give one of his books a go. I did like the story and the characters were relatable. I was rather surprised that when the book was finished, that I wasn't a little more affected. I wanted this story to grab me and take me along for the ride... but I found it missing in some way. Maybe I am just spoiled to some other authors I listen to more frequently.

Good book just wanted a little more 'pow!'

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s easy to say that when it comes to sci-fi you either love it or you hate it. But with Ender’s Game, it seems to be you either love it or you love it.... The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Enter Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, the result of decades of genetic experimentation.

I really wanted to love this book. I have listened to many other young adult books and as nice a the story is, it just didn't grab me. I did like the characters even though I thought the narrator for Ender was a little 'older' sounding than perhaps he should have been.

Nice enough listen but can't say that I am encouraged enough to continue the series.

Firefly Lane is the poignant, powerful story of two women and the friendship that becomes the mainstay of their lives. For 30 years, Tully and Kate buoy each other through life, weathering the storms of friendship: jealousy, anger, hurt, resentment. They think they've survived it all, until a single act of betrayal tears them apart...and puts their courage and friendship to the ultimate test.

There was a moment in this book where I had head to toe goosebumps! I loved the story, the characters and its well narrated. I think I may have another author to add to my list of favorites! Loved this book as much as I did Winter Garden.

Meredith and Nina Whitson are as different as sisters can be. One stayed at home to raise her children and manage the family apple orchard: the other followed a dream and traveled the world to become a famous photojournalist. But when their beloved father fails ill, Meredith and Nina find themselves together again, standing alongside their cold, disapproving mother, Anya, who even now, offers no comfort to her daughters

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

What did you like best about this story?

I really enjoyed this story and the characters. As others said, it was very much an enjoyable book and I would most definitely recommend it! Great read for both the younger and older readers/listeners!

My only disappointment... is when it finally had to come to an end. Would love it to continue on!
