The third novel in the Adrien English series finds the "ill-starred and bookish" mystery writer and bookseller battling demons - maybe literally. After bookstore clerk Angus flees following terrifying death threats, Adrien must contend with a mysterious Satanic cult, a hot and handsome university professor, and his on-again/off-again relationship with closeted LAPD Homicide Detective Jake Riordan. And oh yes, murder...

Curses, Satanists, dead bodies, marriages and a pregnancy. Just about everything but the kitchen sink happens to Adrien this go-around.

Not my favorite of the Adrien English series, but every book is a great read/listen. You cannot go wrong with Josh Lanyon.

Wayward Pines, Idaho, is quintessential small-town America — or so it seems. Secret Service agent Ethan Burke arrives in search of two missing federal agents, yet soon is facing much more than he bargained for. After a violent accident lands him in the hospital, Ethan comes to with no ID and no cell phone. The medical staff seems friendly enough, but something feels…off. As the days pass, Ethan’s investigation into his colleagues’ disappearance turns up more questions than answers. Why can’t he make contact with his family in the outside world? Why doesn’t anyone believe he is who he says he is? And what’s the purpose of the electrified fences encircling the town? Are they keeping the residents in? Or something else out? Each step toward the truth takes Ethan further from the world he knows, until he must face the horrifying possibility that he may never leave Wayward Pines alive…

Would you listen to Midnight Riot again? Why?

Hells yeah, I would listen to Midnight Riot again, and again.

Ben Aaronovitch has created a rich, and colorful world of magical London. I just hope that the historical asides that are presented in this book (i.e. St. Paul's Church called the actors church) are fact. I love learning new things about such an amazing city.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot was well written, kept you guessing all along, and would they catch/stop the killer? Knowing that this was the first in a series I had a few moments of panic thinking that they would not finish up the story line in just one book. And while the world and the people in it continue in the next book, this story line concludes well.

Which character – as performed by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith – was your favorite?

Any of the West End females, Kobna has the snarky attitude down pat.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It is a book that you can put aside, and get some sleep, but it's one that you will want to listen to straight through if you can. (Unlike the Dresden files, where you sometime practically beg for the book to come to an end so the intensity will abate, this series has pauses that allow you to relax and breath again)

    Any additional comments?

I will be adding Ben Aaronovitch to my must have authors list.

When his Uncle Mortimer died and left him Hoxne Grange, the family's Gilded Age mansion, Tristan Pryce became the second generation of Pryces to serve as a caretaker for the estate, a way station for spirits on their final steps to the afterlife. Tristan is prepared for challenges, though not necessarily from the ghosts he's seen since childhood.

Is there any story line Rhys Ford can't write? I'd say no.

Paranormal investigator Wolf meets/investigates ghost hotel owner Tristan and all hell breaks loose. Literally! So what's a Hellsinger to do? Deny, deny, deny, and fall in love anyway.

And I could listen to Tristan James read a phone book and enjoy the experience. Probably my favorite narrator.

The truth is out there. Way, way, way out there! Drew Lawson is racing against the clock. He's got a twenty-four-hour window to authenticate the mummy of Princess Merneith. If he's not at his boyfriend's garden party when that window closes, it'll be the final nail in their relationship coffin. The last thing he needs traipsing on the final shred of his patience is brash, handsome reality show host Fraser Fortune, who's scheduled to film a documentary about the mummy's Halloween curse.

Fun is not an adjective that is generally used in describing a Josh Lanyon novel, but when your leads are drunk and being chased by a guy in a mummy costume, you have to use that very word: Fun.
This is titled as book 1, but unfortunately so far Josh has not come out with a 2nd book (yet) I live in hope, and wait to see where Drew and Fraser's lives will lead.

Not too long from today, a new, highly contagious virus makes its way across the globe. Most who get sick experience nothing worse than flu, fever, and headaches. But for the unlucky one percent - and nearly five million souls in the United States alone - the disease causes "Lock In": Victims fully awake and aware, but unable to move or respond to stimulus. The disease affects young, old, rich, poor, people of every color and creed. The world changes to meet the challenge.

My first introduction to John Scalzi was "Red Shirt" which I couldn't get more than 8 minutes into, so I was reluctant to purchase this novel. I'm glad I took the chance.

This was a great novel. A very interesting premise, well executed story, and the bonus story was the perfect, way to elaborate on the back ground without bogging down the main story.

Best of all; there was no (a) said, (b) said.....repeat ad nauseam.

Sivan and Walter, are an established couple - going thru a change in their lives, and loves.

I loved that the main characters were all in their 40's. You rarely have m/m romance with both leads older than 20 something. Refreshing change, and another top notch story from Mary Calmes

Spyder Lee is a happy man who lives in San Francisco and owns a tattoo shop. One night an angry demon tries to bite his head off before he's saved by a stranger. The demon infected Spyder with something awful - the truth. He can suddenly see the world as it really is: full of angels and demons and monsters and monster-hunters. A world full of black magic and mysteries. These are the Dominions, parallel worlds full of wonder, beauty, and horror

Richard Kadrey has an impressive imagination, and his worlds are very well thought out.
A tattooed man, and a blind demon hunter team up to take a book back from hell, and well all hell breaks loose. Once you get past the strangeness of the first chapter (only 8:44 minutes) the story unfolds nicely. Our hero, his best friend, and a princess from another dimension/world walk willingly into hell, just for our pleasure.

Somewhere in the cobwebbed cellar of the decrepit antebellum mansion known as Ballineen are the legendary Lee bottles - and Austin Gillespie is there to find them. The last thing on his mind is hot and heavy romance with handsome bad boy Jeff Brady. But Jeff has other ideas and, after one intoxicating night, so does Austin. The only problem is they have different ideas.

As I said in the headline - this story is my all around favorite JL book. All his books are exceptional, but this one touches me deeply - and I really can't tell you exactly why.

Unlike a previous reviewer, I did not feel that Syren Rua sounded like Hannibal Lector. Syren is a complicated character, and I feel that Renard Pasquale did a great job of bringing him to life. Some parts of the story were a little hard to take, but you cheer for Syren in the end. I liked the story and the narration.

Gun runner Pablo Castillo has cemented his reputation in the gun trade as callous and cold-hearted. Personal feelings no longer matter, not with everyone out to make him a sacrifice on their way to the top. He remains untouchable, until a meeting with a rival gang leader and a new deal brings him face-to-face with temptation. Dev is the right hand to a sadistic bastard out for blood and glory. He hides his true feelings of distaste for his boss, not the least of his many secrets.
